This isn’t a ripoff, yozakura quartet manga has been here since 2006 and the first anime is here since 2008, this is like the 3rd remake and even so I really liked this series the question now is Cthuko a good fansub group? or are they going to murder this anime?

Although I don’t know which one follows the manga better. Anyone can tell me? And there is some OVAs too right? Is the ova related with this tv version?

Shandris Says:

Korsakoff Says:

@x2ruff4u A rip-off? Not even close, this is a remake of a 2008 anime which is based on the manga. I’d say the similarities between this and Senran is the yellow jumper the female MC is wearing.

I’ve been waiting for this, never got around to watch the original series which interested me after finding out the mangaka for his also did the artwork for Durara and wanted to se if the similarities ended with artwork alone.

omg is this gonna be comment ses where people just randomly say this anime is a rip off before even looking in to it?

knightcj701 Says:
October 7th, 2013 at 4:51 pm

is this an actual series? or a short ova shoot like the last one?

Dao Says:
October 7th, 2013 at 4:51 pm

Oh, I forgot to say, Cthuko is a group made up of really good fansubbers from different groups. It’s lead by valerauko who is a really good translator in the fansubbing scene. They’re pretty much auto A+.

rautes Says:
October 7th, 2013 at 5:53 pm

If Dao says so then it must be true

sterob Says:
October 7th, 2013 at 6:15 pm

*I ripped this from tumblr to clear things up*

The Yozakura Quartet manga consists of larger, action-packed arcs, interspersed with one-off slice-of life chapters and character development. Looking at the chapter listing, this becomes immediately apparent. The main arcs are:

Ch. 11-20: Thorny Path
Ch. 26-34: Sea of Stars
Ch. 35-39: Walking Pilgrimage
Ch. 44-50: Song of Flowers
Ch. 58-62: Crying in the Moonlight

… with all the chapters in between being shorter adventures, humourous side stories or slice-of-life antics. The anime adaptations (with the exception of the 2008 series) focus almost exclusively on the big arcs, which allows the animators to make the action scenes look as wonderful as possible, but also makes it hard to watch them without having read the manga. The adaptations are:

Yozakura Quartet (2008, 12 episodes)

A twelve-episodes TV anime that is based on the manga, yet does not directly adapt it and deviates from canon quite a bit. Average and not worth watching.

Yozakura Quartet ~Hoshi no Umi~ (2010 – 2011, 3 episodes)

A series of Original Video Animations based on the “Sea of Stars” arc. It is not related to the 2008 anime. As it picks up at around chapter 25, new viewers will miss a lot of context, yet it is still great fun without knowledge of the manga. Trust me, I know.

Yozakura Quartet ~Tsuki ni Naku~ (2013 – 2014, 3 episodes)

Three upcoming Original Video Animations, which will be based on the “Crying in the Moonlight” arc. Made by the same team and cast as Hoshi no Umi.

Yozakura Quartet ~ Hana no Uta ~ (2013, 12 episodes)

Now this is where stuff gets hairy. The Hana no Uta anime will be a full TV anime, and will start airing October 6th. It will be made by the same team as the Hoshi no Umi and Tsuki ni Naku OVAs. Judging from the title, it will be based on the recent “Song of Flowers” arc, but on the other hand, it has been stated to be a “retelling of the story from the beginning” with “original content combined with content from the manga.” Nevertheless, the latest trailer featured characters from the “Song of Flowers” arc, which would be impossible to reach in 12 episodes if properly adapting the manga as a whole. This casts doubt on whether it will actually be an all new adaptation accessible to new viewers.

That should answer your questions.

hmmm… just my impression, but i think the first show was better than this…

tektrageist Says:
October 8th, 2013 at 5:39 am

Wow, they really cheaped out on the animation. What’s the point of the redo in poorer quality.

Korsakoff Says:
October 8th, 2013 at 2:56 pm

Well, just look at the bright side. If it doesn’t succeed as a remake, it at least made the previous adaptations look better.

That’s +1 to advertising.

d768 Says:

so they shaved a few years from the ages of the characters vs the original? not cool…..

what i like is that theres no exagerately bug oppai left and right like in many series…

thanks guys

crypted Says:

I’m cool with this. I like Yozakura Quartet and the first episode seemed alright. But more importantly- the opening is by Unison Square Garden, and that itself makes an anime good.
