I much prefer mkv, that is, the HQ version. And i am sure many others do too :)

BTW, why do the admins post the AVI version anyway??

I think it would be better and maybe even faster if admins post only the HQ version, and maybe instead provide a mirror of the HQ version, instead of the lower quality version.
Just my 2p.

MKV requires a fast computer to draw it well or the video will lag, so for laptops and older PCs we provide AVIs ;). Also for our convinced since stream sites like veoh and megavideo don’t accept MKVs

.MKV has indeed better quality than .AVI; however, .MKV can not be played on DIVX Dvd Players. I like to collect anime in .AVI and burn them on DVDs as a back-up DVD and watch it on Divx Dvd Player without going through hours of converting and burning just a few episodes. Have you ever tried to make a DVD from .MKV episodes? If you have, you would have noticed that the output quality is no different from the .AVI episodes.

In my opinion, .AVI is better than .MKV, not only does it have a decent quality and viewable on any Divx Dvd Players, it also has a smaller size than .MKV ~ so i’d hope that you guys would continue posting .AVI version.

I agree with what darkkosmos said, even though there isn’t THAT much difference between the computer systems that can play the MKV version without lagging and those that play the AVI version without any problems. Thanks for providing both versions though, even if i always download the higher quality version, since i watch all my anime on my PC, like many people, since i usually cannot wait to burn the weekly episode and then go watch it on TV :)
For MKV to lag, you would need to be using a PentiumIII generation computer or lower, which is not so popular nowadays :D But i understand that AVI is currently a must for veoh and megavideo - hopefully even that will evolve to adopt MKV as well.

@TheQuyen Many fansubbing groups do not specifically intend their releases to be playable or compatible with divx players, ps3, etc. And also, there are many AVI versions that won’t play on many divx players, due to some weird reason… DB’s Bleach (i think only the first 50 eps worked) won’t play on my divx player, for example. So, you cannot just come around to the conclusion that .AVI is better than MKV, because it’s not :D
Hint: New divx players supporting MKV are already out, and getting increasingly popular, for obvious reasons.

@zouave I was just making a few points about the replies to my question, but still grateful, since the HQ is still being posted, alongside the AVI version.

@funky: What?! Divx Dvd Players with .MKV supported are out already!!? Where?! I looked on Google and the Divx main website but couldn’t find the dvd players. Could you give me a link to those dvd players? I want to order one :)

@TheQuyen i forgot what brand it was, but it is being marketed in Australia since about one year, and then there is the universal media player Popcorn Hour, which is the best overall: http://www.popcornhour.com/onlinestore/

@funky: Thanks, man. Now the only thing that i’d wish for is that they would release the firmware for reading .RMVB formats. But lord, i’m broke at the moment to buy something at that price they’re selling (~$180 USD)

From what I’ve heard they’re updating firmware and stuff very often (I believe .RMVB already works), and I think the price is acceptable.
