Why do people like .avi ?
Is it due to poor computers?
Unable to find a suitable player?
It has been puzzling me.

Xvid is Avi but I will take care of that later. Also this one has watermark from convention, won’t happen again ;) unless I’m that forget full.

@darlinganime: I don’t mind, ask veritas; he takes care of most of the stuff now

Man, I’m a little surprised… Has nobody that has been commenting on this page ever heard of VLC Media Player? It’s the video program that I use and I’m damn happy that I got it.

VLC Media Player can play every file format that I’ve thrown at it. The formats that I’ve been able to play using VLC are: MKV, OGM, AVI, WMV, and MPEG-4. I have not yet encountered a file format that it can’t play.

Also, don’t bash too much on the AVI format releases please. I also agree that the MKV and OGM format qualities are usually better than the AVI and MPEG-4 formats. But I like to watch these shows on my HDTV (due to my family not getting cable) using my XBOX 360, and the XBOX 360 can only recognize and play AVI and MPEG-4 formats.

I’m not so sure if the others people who prefer the AVI and MPEG-4 formats get them for that reason, but that is definitely why I get them along with the MKV’s and the OGM’s.

It’s hard not knowing VLC media player!!!
I don’t use it because vlc doesn’t always correctly show subs, de sound is also sometimes not right, it even freezes time too time.
That’s why I use CCCP (combined community codec pack) with media player classic, or zoomplayer. With these I havn’t got any problems.
Yust that you know!!!

Oh forgot!!!
Thx for the upload Veritias ;D

Scander Says:

I personally prefer Windows Media Player, since i think it has a much better quality playing .mkv than zoom or classic >.< idk about VLC since i never even heard of it lol

PhuzyBuny Says:

VLC sucks.

Get CCCP.

This is what we recommend from the admins at AnimeTake.

Verlaine Says:

I actually have CCCP after a friend recommended it to me. I never got around to using it, so I never knew of how good it is. Because VLC just works for me. But if you guys say so, I’ll take your word for it.

Oh, and I’ll say another thing to support the releases of AVI and MPEG-4 formats for anime episodes. Since I do watch these shows with my sisters with an HDTV, we like the quality of the videos to be as high as possible. I do have convertor programs like: “All to AVI”, “OGM to AVI”, and “Videora” so that I can convert MKV and OGM files into a watchable format. But sadly, “All to AVI” usually drops the quality of the video down to a slightly pixely version of the original. And although “Videora” does not do such a thing, it changes the dimensions of the videos to smaller ones. I’d like to have the same programs that the fansubbing groups use.

.avi is easier to convert to .mp4 for PSP playability. Conversion of .mkv to .mp4 will have the soft subs missing
