You can extract the subtitles and the font formats using “MKVMerge”, or more specifically, “MKVExtract”.
You’ll have to download MKVMerge first, install that, then download the GUI for “MKVExtract” and then extract all the files to:

C:\Program Files\MKVtoolnix

or whichever folder you installed “MKVMerge” to. If you don’t do this, “MKVExtract won’t work properly. And you NEED “MKVExtract” in order to demux the subtitles and subtitle fonts.

When you demux the subtitle(s) and subtitle font(s) from your target video file. In order to reproduce the original file’s subtitle’s font, size, positions, colors, and effects; you have to place all of the demuxed subtitle font(s) to:

C:\WINDOWS\Fonts

Or whichever folder you have ALL of your computer’s fonts installed.

You can download the “MKVMerge” GUI from:

If I want to convert one of my .avi files to .mp4 so that I can watch them on my I-Pod, I just simply use the Videora I-Pod Convertor. It’s always worked just fine for me.

You only need to look at it if you want proper subtitles……… and higher quality. At the expense of time of course.

And it’s just fantastic to watch on my HDTV because it is a Samsung with that nice “Auto Motion Enhancement” feature. So it really seems like you could just reach out and interact with the anime.

Well yes, I do have an aversion to porn, but so long as it has a good storyline, or at least some kind of strong emotional presence, I’ll like it.

LOL, I just realized that I ruled out basically 99% of porn on terms of what I like to watch…

So I guess on terms of anime and manga, I’m ok with it being very ecchi, but when it gets into full-blown obscenity I have to tough it out in order to complete what I started.

I’ve actually read some stuff that made me tear up.

Nah, it’s not as dirty as I guess I made it sound, and anyway it wasn’t fully consensual on Keita’s part. Because like I said earlier, when Keita blacks-out from drinking; he becomes flirtatious, horny, and kinky. He blacks-out from about the same amount of alcohol it takes to make Riko pass out, and thus they’re both pretty bad light-weights. But Ako, she’s a girl who can handle it like a champion, and she tries to exploit this weakness of Keita’s all the time w/o fully getting what she wanted out of it.

The funniest part to me is that Keita DOESN’T remember a single thing he did while he was blacked out so in I think around the 16th 17th chapter, He doesn’t realize that he’s gotten soo much more intimate with his non-blood related older twin sisters, Ako and Riko. So they’re glad he doesn’t remember but at the same time pissed off that at it too because he pretty much he pretty much rocked their world…

Oh boy, who doesn’t love having their shows filled with screen-cluttering karaoke’s?

I dunno man, I gotta say that I do like there being Karaoke subs so long as they’re accurate. If it’s so bad that I end up having to correct the subs in my head as I watch the show, then I’ll be mad.

The reason why I say this is because I only understand about 50-75% of the dialogue on my own. So I like to also use these shows educationally. Of course I’ll check whether or not the fansub groups used the correct word in the right context by checking the words in a dictionary, and I gotta say, quite a few groups really “Americanize” the words and phrases used.

Sorry, but it’s just ugly crap to me. I want to be able to look at the art. Not three walls of text jumping around my screen flashing colors at me.

Some groups like to localize, and some like to stay literal. It’s just a matter of preference on their end.

No need to apologize, I perfectly understand your opinion. I always have that nagging thought at the back of my head that the subtitles are blocking the valuable artwork from great animators like Ufotable and Makoto Shinkai. So I wish that more sub groups would practice using transparent subs that can still be seen by both 20/20 (or better) vision people and people with visual impairments.

I’m of the opinion that karaoke’s should be outlawed. I also think that groups should use the smallest readable font they can, with minimal styling.

Of course, none of this would matter if I would get off my ass and actually learn the whole language. (It is really sad though, when you can spot holes in translations and such with just watching for so long)

Understandable, but I think for shows like Macross Frontier, in which, a key part of the show is the power of song, I think it is a must for fansubbers to include karaoke so that the songs are understandable by people who can’t understand even a bit of Japanese.

Is there something happening during the song? I don’t know what Macross was about, but if it was just a bunch of people singing, then I suppose they aren’t covering much up. So long as they aren’t blocking otherwise valuable artwork, I’ve got no problem.

Ah jeez, don’t get me started… That was an atrocious karaoke…

I really like it when fansub groups actully have enough skill to make sure that their karaoke(s) take place in unused parts of the screen so as to limit the degeneration of quality on the video done in part by the presence of the Karaoke.

But with Hatsuyuki’s Karaoke… ugh, it was just like: “HEY I’M HERE AND I’M GOING TO FUCK UP YOUR ENJOYMENT OF WATCHING THIS EPISODE!”

See, that’s what I think when I see any karaoke, that one was just too much though…

OP’s and ED’s are generally beautifully done and that’s why I can’t stand Karaoke’s. Any part of the screen being blocked during an OP or ED is just blasphemous to me.
