I sorta liked endless eight. If it didn’t exist, I wouldn’t ask for it to. They could have done way better. But it is there, and there is nothing you guys can do about it =P

Endless Eight is going to be a title remembered for a long time, it will be up there with School Days in the annals of anime history. Other than that I don’t see what else they hope to accomplish. Of the episodes I’ve watched I couldn’t say which was which, but they are so similar to each other there won’t be any point in archiving all of them, the 1st and last will be all I save, if that.
This series has become something only a raging fanboy could love.

I’m pretty sure a 3rd season will be announced shortly after the end of this season. Of course this is all speculation. Also, does anyone know when the next book in the Haruhi novels is going to be released? I figured he’d do it when this season started or finished but I haven’t heard anything over it.

That could one of the reasons for this delay, The author of the novels seems to have a permanent writers block going on finishing the last damn book, the later novels introduce new characters but without that last book its a story half told.

I don’t think its only because of the book hiatus. There is something like book 4, book 7 and book 8 still completely untouched, and other short stories in the other books in between. Book 9 is the start of “rumored final story arc” so doubtful that that would be animated.

Everyone of you that praises this arc and belittles the majority of us who think this was poorly done are lame. This not genius… This lazy and sad, and there are other stories from the novels that could have been animated. Stop already with the “This awesome and you Haruhi Fanboys are getting pissy over nothing”. I’m no fanboy, but i know good anime directing and plot development when I see it and this is NOT it.

They’ll still probably sell DVDs of this, there will always be people with more money than sense, but they are never going to sell as many DVDs as they would have if they had done this right.
They’ve tossed out the novels, this story has been radically changed from it’s printed origins so who knows how it will end. The chapter Endless Eight started and ended at recursion 15498, it didn’t go any further. They’ve taken an interesting story concept and made it painfully monotonous.
Kyoanni is one of my favorite anime studios but I think they really fucked up on this one.

Well: I said it isn’t that way in the novels.
Endless Eight itself exists there though BUT only ONE circle is described there (the 15,498th circle to be precise). They are doing all their things and find out about it and resolve it in the one described circle. Therefore it was also only one side-story chapter. It could have been done in ONE episode – maximum should have been 2 episodes.
Especially, since there are really some interesting main-story arcs “waiting” to be animated.

Regarding DVDs: Sure they will sell but as you said definitely not as good. Furthermore, there is also the possibility of buying the DVDs without the endless eight arc – if the other episodes are good – (might be possible, after all endless eight will probably be TWO DVDs itself which could be left out) or maybe as a complete box when it is pretty cheap but of course, all three options will decrease the money they get from the DVD sales.

i don’t mind the endless eight arc actually, what i do mind how ever is the fact that haruhi season 2 has only 14 eps! and 8 of them are in the endless eight, so that gives us about 6 more episode of season 2 remaining………….

ya thats my main beef, if they’re giving us 24 or more episodes then bring on endless eight but if its only 14 then theres a lot of stuff we won’t get to see but not enough to justify another season after this.

stints I get the impression that you enjoy arguing and would pick the conflicting opinion just for shit and giggles no matter what, you’ve made a point of looking down your nose at everyone that hates this repetition so it should come as no surprise when some derision is directed back at you.
Artistically the animation is top notch as usual for Kyoanni, each episode taken individually would be good in its own right but the combination of what appears will be 8 repetitions of the same thing with only subtle differences is ludicrous, this isn’t some highbrow Shakespearian drama, it’s friggin anime. I have to wonder if this director has been taking pointers off the hacks that produce Naruto, Bleach and One Piece. The main problem with dragging this out is we are not going to get 200 episodes of Haruhi. Most of us who enjoyed how the 1st season stayed relatively faithful to the novels are going to have to settle for the prospect that we won’t be seeing the rest of the story animated, all so that we can see one small chapter dragged out to ridiculous proportion. Truely complaining about it here won’t accomplish anything other than perhaps saving those with less than ideal bandwidth, wasting it downloading something guaranteed to disappoint them.

All 8 of the endless 8 will be counted as one episode. So when this all ends we will still have 12 new episodes.

Each part of the 8 is called Endless Eight…..not Endless Eight part 3 or part 6…. just endless eight.

You know, they did say it’s just a rerun of season 1, after all. Season 2 might actually start after Endless Eight, at the beginning of August. This would be the second time they’ve done the “in real time” thing.

In the original airing of season 1 (2006) they speak of a series of events occurring “3 years ago”. Some nerds did some math and calendar reading to check in what year the series “actually happens”, and they found out that the only viable year would be 2009, considering some things mentioned by Kyon about Golden Week and the like.

Now, in 2009, they did a re-airing of Season 1, and they speak of an event going on “3 years ago”. the ‘explosion of data regarding Haruhi’ would then be the first airing of season 1, in which Haruhi’s larger fandom was created and so on. They managed to create they hype they were going for. Just as planned.

I don’t doubt they will pull this shit off again, starting the next part of the series when the characters’ Endless Summer is said to end.

Meanwhile, I’m enjoying the way some of these eps are carried out with different motifs and styles. I like it, even though I’d very much like the plot to move, like everyone else.

Doesn’t matter how they count this… They are only slated for 28 episodes this run, and we know 14 of them are the first season, so if this goes full 8 then counting Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody we only get 5 more new eps after this.

I’m placing my bet on what someone mentioned above. I think they probably got green lit for two seasons, so they can afford to play around with this a bit. Either that or maybe they just really don’t want to do it anymore. You never know… Kyoani may have had something else they wanted to do, and were not given a choice but to do Haruhi instead. To use another Evangelion example when people had fits about the ending the director gave them a new one… In which almost every character was shot in the head. LOL

well let’s just wait for the next episode

I have the same speculation as jabman025. We aren’t seeing any episode number on each airing right? It’s just the counting of the episodes has frozen as well, like the story progression.

I’m seriously considering retiring koi no mikuru densetsu as my cell ringtone, and replacing it with “Kyon-kun denwa”

I’m almost frightened that they will only end the Endless Eight on the last week of August. But I think all the fans would have died by then… I like the episodes, I like the yellow float in this episode, but I think the subbers are getting bored. The poor seiyuus are getting bored. The fans are going to weep with joy when Kyon finally does his homework.
