Taishou Yakyuu Musume
In 1925 (year 14 of the Taisho period), after being told by a baseball player that women should become housewives instead of going to school, two 14-year-old Japanese high school girls named Koume and Akiko decide to start a baseball team in order to prove him wrong. During this time, when even running was considered too vulgar for women, baseball is known as “what the boys do” and they face many difficulties when searching members, getting permission from their parents and when learning about the sport itself.

Rolling the dice on another baseball animu, and in 1925 at that. At least it has J.C. Staff on its side… They do good stuff… sometimes…

@likenew

Watch Cross Game episode 1. Now. :)

http://www.animetake.com/cross-game-episode-1/

You’re missing out big time if you don’t at least watch the first episode of it.

I don’t know what to expect of this show since I haven’t watched it yet, but cross game is one of the best ongoing shows at the moment, and the first episode is probably the best first episode of last season. >.<

You need to watch Hajime No Ippo, Prince of Tennis >_>, Slam Dunk, etc. Your missing out big time xD.

777chris777 Says:
July 4th, 2009 at 1:10 am

Hajime no ippo, prince of tennis and slam dunk are more love/hate type series since they draw heavily on the sporting aspects. I think it’s better not to watch seriously-sports-orientated animes first if you don’t really like the genre.

Not that they’re bad series by all means, just that I know some people don’t like those ones (esp PoT). :P

Ditto to that. Include Cross Game, definitely the best series from last season. You’re also forgetting Major, one of my favorite anime, especially the first and third season. I can rewatch Major over and over again, lol. I just wish they would have it ongoing instead of one season every winter-spring.

I’ll check this one out prolly, since I like baseball.

LAWLS BASEBALL!!!!!!! COUNT ME IN!!!!!! Anyways.. +1 with boomerjp on cross game and major.. Hajime no ippo sucks bad though.

HentaiKamen Says:

Watching baseball, in any format is like watching paint dry.

Playing it is pretty fun, when you actually get to catch/hit the ball… which isn’t often unless the pitcher sucks, which also sucks since losing by 10+ isn’t fun.

My friend can throw a 92mph fastball and no one(high school games) could hit off him unless he screwed up his throw. I bet the teams we played wished they were watching paint dry instead…

As for baseball anime, it is such bullshit watching every single damn protagonist throw 100mph at the high school level. Japanese baseball anime are all one step away from Prince of Tennis physics. Especially Major. Gyroball? Bullshitball.

I wish they go all the way in either direction. Make it realistic, or make it really over the top, instead of clinging in between.

Even in the Majors you don’t get many pitchers capable of throwing that hard, and the ones that can typically don’t rely on it because
a) injury, b) steroid macho man will hit fastball no matter the speed.

Watching the stereotypical short/average shounen protagonist throw 100mph when 6+ ft Major Leaguers can’t pisses me off. At least claim they have superpowers and leave it at that but noo…

/rant off

venderv Says:
July 4th, 2009 at 8:18 am

I still like major >_> as for this anime the beginning explanation made me go whyy
least for me major was more entertaining character wise when he grows up throughout time

venderv Says:
July 4th, 2009 at 8:19 am

and henta crossgame is pretty good o.o its like a bit more realistic then major is

darkninjax Says:
July 4th, 2009 at 8:32 am

oii hentai why would they make *anime* realistic? why do u think its called anime?

ITS MEANT FOR ENTERTAINMENT PERIOD. what u mean probably means cooler or more fun by adding things u would think about. and if they dont do all of the things their doing anime would just suck *example* IF THEY MADE ALL THE NARUTO CHARACTERS REALISTIC THEY WOULDNT BE JUMPING FROM TREE TO TREE AND USING NINJA ARTS LOL WELL THATS WHAT I THINK

777chris777 Says:
July 4th, 2009 at 11:26 am

Just watched it. I do like the time period and baseball factors however I’m not so sure the whole ladylike female thing flows well with me. After watching Ep 1 I do feel like seeing at least another episode, so it can’t be too bad. :)

raven2000 Says:
July 4th, 2009 at 1:13 pm

meh… Didn’t leave much of an impact on me. I prefer major/cross game >><<
@HentaiKamen: Sif be a hypocrite. To know about gyroball you must have watched at least until the third season of major.. Why watch that much of an anime that you hate/pisses you off?

HentaiKamen Says:
July 4th, 2009 at 3:23 pm

@raven2000 – I’m a monster. Hsss! Don’t look at me!

@vendern – Ok Major is pretty entertaining because it’s really over the top.

@darnninjax – I said I wish they went all the way either way. Naruto goes all the way. But most baseball anime are stuck halfway. There is no superpowers but it just borders on insane.

Tetrafirez Says:
July 4th, 2009 at 7:11 pm

@HentaiKamen… lol @ name? but, I agree with you. I like how Basquash takes it over the top (his throws that light up the city have to be my favorite thing) and Saki definitely takes it over the top… I mean, normally watching people play mahjong is less fun than watching baseball or paint…

I think Koukaku no Regios’ biggest failure was having everyone be something similar to a martial artist, which is realistic… then have Layfon and a few other people using kamehahas and shit it’s just retarded…

HentaiKamen Says:
July 4th, 2009 at 10:20 pm

@Tetrafirez – Hentai Kamen is actually a superhero from a manga of the same name. A very perverted one. You have been warned.

As for Koukaku no Regios, that made no fucking sense at all. But I get what you are saying, since I also hate it when they take a real life concept and then make it unbelievable, without explaining anything… *cough* Prince of Tennis *cough*

I wouldn’t mind it if they outright say “yeah it’s an alternate world where tennis is a martial art sport that uses ki”.
