1. I say the time is irrelevant in a sealed environment, and should instead depend on the biological rhythms of the people there.
2. The time is determined by mission control on the ground anyway.
3. Most likely the author will determine it’s early to mid morning, based on the clues they’ve left.
4. In actual space, there’s that whole time-gravity (also time is relevant) thing but we won’t get into that.
Love a series that pulls you in and surprises you with the ending credits.

It is 3 AM because he saw the clock on the bus in the beginning of the episode. The clock said 2 so he factor in the rest of the time while everyone was calculating since the beginning of the event.
