You kids need to learn to not judge a book by its cover. This airs during a time slot made specifically for anime that goes against current trends in the industry. Plus, they already made several hints about the plot involving heavy artillery and/or demons.

For those that don’t know this anime is filling a new timeslot in Japan dedicated to “original” anime. That means anime that don’t come from manga/games etc and is being made from scratch. Also some of the artists that worked on k-on are working on this which is why there are similarities in the characters looks.

In terms of first episodes, that was off the charts. I don’t have a single complaint about the entire episode. The first two minutes had already grabbed my attention and would not let go. Beautiful camera angles, splendid animation, and stunning backgrounds. K-On! may have made the art style popular, but darn it to heck if I can’t even remember it’s first episode. This, however, will most likely be a first episode I’m not likely to forget, along with some notables like FMA and Ga-rei Zero.

If you didn’t like K-On!, I still suggest you watch at the first episode anyways. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

On the other hand, if you did like it, and was just expecting K-On! in military outfits(which was perfectly fine with me), be prepared to be given a lot more.

I don’t know where people are getting the K-on at war nonsense, sounds like a lot of prejudging without actually watching, I found the artwork very detailed and realistic, this episode alone eluded to what may prove to be an involving plot, I can’t quite get a handle on whether this is steampunk, or alternate history, there is a definite FMA feel to it.

The art styles are so similar between this and K-On! it’s scary. That’s partly why everyone is drawing the conclusion that this is K-On! at war.

Well, the character designs have been obviously influenced by certain other shows… but…

This show has a lot of potential…

The foreshadowing with the fire maiden legend in the beginning has my mind just drooling for so epic war torn ending…

Oh, and if production values keep around this level… this show could be great.

I liked K-ON, because it was hilarious. But the prospect of an original (as in not from manga/novels/game) anime series perks my interest too.

One of the superior shows this season…though that doesn’t mean much.
But it has nice animation, I will watch just for that.

After watching the episode, it does still look like K-On. However, unlike K-On this show is more refreshing than the average school life drama/comedy. I especially like the outdoors setting because I get so tired of seeing fucking buildings in anime. The animation is quite good and seems to have high quality standards. I can’t say the show is great at this point since I’ve seen only one episode but I’ll say it shows promise.

And LOL at the loli tank mechanic. (No wonder Japan lost the war.)

This is a weird K-ON version…but I guess I’ll keep watching.

I got mixed nostalgic feeling when watching this series. When I hear the intro song (in the train) its feels like watching “Spirited Away”; then comes to all the townsfolk, its feels like “Spice and Wolf”; then during the second song being sang and with scene of Kanata standing on the clift, its feels like scene in “ICO” game. I haven’t got this feeling when watching anime in a while. This series might be next black horse if the quality of animation and stories goes on.

I’ll give it a go, as long as it doesn’t turn into an anime about eating cake at war. :P
