It’s been a thousand years since the Gauna, a strange alien race with no known method of communication, destroyed the solar system. A portion of humanity managed to escape using enormous “seed ships” like the Sidonia, which have allowed them to maintain the population while drifting through space. Nagate Tanikaze is a young man who has been raised deep in the bowels of the ship. When he goes into training to pilot the huge robotic weapons known as Gardes, Nagate is entrusted with piloting the legendary unit known as Tsugumori. Nagate and his fellow pilots put their lives on the line against the Gauna, in the ultimate battle for the survival of humanity! MyAnimeList

Something that looks like a proper mecha series without the harem highschool training.

Been waiting for this, hope it’s just as good as the manga, really love Nihei’s style, hopefully because this is getting animated that he might even let them animate BLAME! and BioMega, one can only dream…

I see some similarity in terms of plot with this and Shingeki no Kyojin =p
Still, I wouldn’t say it’s a clone or copy of that.

Genderless person(s), clones?twins? people, and a person who uses photosynthesis? — I like these new ideas.

I’m looking forward to watching this anime.

Satonaka_CP4 Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 7:25 am

nah the real Shingeki clone and doing a bad job of it from what I hear is that Bullet time anime or whatever it’s called.

This one more reminds me of Ars Nova with it’s CGI and the story’s not too bad, good enough for a few more episodes but it looks like a keeper. Animations a little rough but I is diggin’ it thus far XD

Pwned Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 7:32 am

Satonaka_CP4 Says:

SO glad that shows getting a season 2, it was pretty good stuff there.

Watching this anime is like playing a buggy lagging game. The charater’s movement is very bad also the face’s motion. I don’t think cel shading is the future of animes.

Grimmire Says:

Saw a couple previews for this anime, but I couldn’t remember the name so I began thinking it wasn’t airing this season. It’s on of the anime that piqued my interest, so here’s to hoping it doesn’t disappoint.

To the people deciding on viewing an anime. I would not recommend passing up an anime just because of bad art and/or animation. I’ll elaborate as to why down below.

I made the mistake of doing that with only watching ~10 minutes of the first episode of Kingdom. Then weeks later, I was bored and watched 5 episodes in a row and now Kingdom season 1 and 2 has become one of my favorite and re-watched series. I still favor shows like Berserk(TV) over most modern anime even with it’s old art/animation because I feel that story and the manner in which it is told/shown is what makes an anime enjoyable.

d768 Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 8:44 am

@Satonaka : Black Bullet is actually pretty good. Or awesome, depending what you are comparing it to.

KaizerSoze Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 8:45 am

I don’t think that animu studios have guts to adapt Blame! or Biomega, so we have popcorn Cydonia with bad graphic.

Khalim Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 8:50 am

^ Biomega is too short and would need a heavy art change, Blame! on the screen would not have the pacing of the manga. The plot would be lost on most after a few episodes with constant pacing.
This is really the only Nihei work that can be animated reliably.

arsyad05 Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 10:15 am

why he holding sword while he already something so big behind him?

lockheed Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 10:40 am

@Eglo: Well, we save because we can? I feel sorry for those with crappy PCs.

BioBlame Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 10:40 am

@Khalim I get where your coming from but an OVA series for both Blame and Biomega may be cool, like 5-6 episodes per manga I remember watching the Blame!: Salvaged Disc by Cibo and really liking it even though you need to read the manga to understand it, if they did an OVA series they could speed up the pacing a bit so the story animates better, if it’s a bit different than the manga it’s not a bad thing, just don’t “filler” it and it should come out ok. I have thought of ways Blame and Biomega could be animated but only though an ova series or mini-movies (e.g. Break Blade, Towa no Quon).

KaizerSoze Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 10:59 am

The main problem is that Nihei’s works don’t have harem, loli, school and other otaku crap, so it’s very risky to put money in a project that will be not for everyone tastes.

xmode11 Says:

We ANIME lover, & ANIME Collector
We download and watch anime, and save it, and would not remove it until whenever.
“Watch and Delete.” for me it’s most harmful actions.
if my 4TB hard disk not enough , I would buy new hard drive, or move it to a DVD-R ..

Ethriost Says:

Not everyone have fast internet 24/7, and not everyone want to watch their anime only once.

Ethriost Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 12:12 pm

Also, in my country, it’s much costly and much more frustrating to download an anime so we appreciate every single byte of anime files downloaded into our hard drive.

I hope for your enlightenment? or something? LOL

Hyperstorm Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 1:14 pm

This ain’t even half as bad as it looks. Sure the arwork/character designs are a bit “different” from the usual but I wouldn’t call that bad or ugly and even though the animation is CGI-ish but it looks pretty well done at least imo.

And this comes from someone who doesn’t even like the mecha genre.

Ethriost Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 2:21 pm

The CGI is so laggy it feels like playing ENB-modded Skyrim with average-spec PC.
I hope they fix this in the BD releases.

Sashida Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 2:30 pm

I like CGI so i will try it, Nobu and Edo bots are bad

Cantalupe Says:

upotu Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 8:13 pm

The character animation does not work that well for all scenes, but otherwise it looks and sounds Awesome.

And for some reason it really seems to hurt when the protagonist gets hit. Is it because of the sound effects? lol

HD survivor Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 8:24 pm

I remember reading a little of the manga… What a strange manga to animate, I kind of agree with the 3D I don’t really see how else it could be animated.

Tchaa Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 8:57 pm

The art style is pretty much perfect for the mecha and gauna. It doesn’t work as well with the characters but its still pretty good there. At least the characters don’t seem as awkward as Kingdom.

nokou Says:
April 11th, 2014 at 11:11 pm

otaku_ex Says:
April 12th, 2014 at 3:12 am

damn! why a third gender?

synic Says:
April 12th, 2014 at 3:49 am

because science. i was taken aback by that little revelation. They change depending on their partner? lololololol wut. what if they change partners? or have multiple? Can they have both? Does it change instantly to suit the situation? is “detatchable” a thing? too many questions, i feel like none of them are going to be answered. This show is so much more enjoyable while drinking.

Sakiji Says:
April 12th, 2014 at 9:58 pm

I’ve got more than 6TB of anime on my hard drives, over 1000 series (and a total of 15TB hdd space)

I collect various things because the internet does forget, information might stick around “forever”, but media like this doesn’t.
I personally watch shows only once, but I like to have a database, so it doesn’t get lost.
Because torrents and IRC really work just for the most recent stuff for the most part.
Older series or not as popular ones don’t get seeds or the providers on IRC quit, or might not even take it up in the first place.
With 1click filehosters like Megaupload they had no “decay” in availability, the hosts which replaced it seem to be mostly a pain in the ass though, and don’t have the amount of content that was available at Megaupload.

In case I want to show my grandchildren some good anime show from the old’en days, I don’t have to rely on any external sources. :>

CGI is too much for my crap PC, but the action was pretty interesting

Senjiro Says:
April 27th, 2014 at 9:18 am

CGI is so gay man, they even messed up the opening. Sorry but the story&setting isn’t promising enough for me to risk getting eye cancer from watching this one. The people shouldn’t support low quality crap like this or else the anime industry will end up like the cartoon-industry in America, where only cheap CG-movies are produced because of low costs and high profits.
People should honour the hard work of people who draw/drew cells to produce high quality and support/save these jobs instead of giving crappy statements like “one shouldn’t criticize the art/ way it’s made [CGI]”. Sorry if you’ve got no sense for aesthetics and quality, but I myself feel myself being worthy enough not to consume garbage like this!

Ethriost Says:
April 27th, 2014 at 10:23 am

I agree that the CGI in this anime is in lower-than-good quality and that using a more “traditional” way is probably better for this anime (or all anime in general, as per your saying).
But I’d say, Dude, CGI is the future. Sure it might be a bit crappy at present, but I think this kind of animation style will improve a lot in the near future. And about the people who currently still draw cells, sooner or later they should learn about doing it straight in CGI/3D renderer, or else they’ll be left behind the times. That’s what I think.

Quality has nothing to do with it being CG or not. If something is crap, it is crap, CG or not.
