@silentmoon

There’s always the 1337 server. If you donate you can get access to the AnimeTake server where you can download at speeds greater than 1Mb/s.

Direct downloads tend to be more consistent in their speeds and download a lot faster than torrents. Torrent speeds are restricted to the number of seeders and leechers and thus can vary greatly from person to person (or peer to peer, ahahah get it? P2P? huh…okay…I’ll stop).

For example, you downloaded this episode in 10 minutes (which I’m assuming is an approximation). Let’s approximate that most episodes are about 300MB in size. 10 minutes times 60 seconds is 600 seconds. Downloading 300MB in 600s corresponds to a speed of 0.5MB/s or 500KB/s. This is an amazing speed for torrent. I only get 500KB/s on really good days. A direct download from [MU] averages at about 500KB/s (with a free account). Premium accounts like ThatGuy can use download accelerators such as DTA to speed up the download 4 times (it separates the file into 4 sections downloaded simultaneously).

To answer the question. People’s reasons are different but the main reason is that the speeds are consistent and high. Torrents fluctuate and are unstable in their speeds. This is from my experience.

Ya i know that direct download is faster but i prbly finished this episode before direct link even showed up.
So rather waiting for the direct link, i`ll use torrent.

Well I guess it’s different for everyone. That’s why AnimeTake offers both the DDL and the Torrent!

these days i dont trust torrents anymore.. when i installed my new firewall i got 13 attacks from other computers(peers) while downloading the torrent (was using outpost firewall and doing nothing but downloading) .. Sigh >_> il stick with trusted slower Mu Server ^_^ Lol GL

As Phuzy Bunny was saying, it’s a matter of personal preference. I use what I use because it works for me. However, that may not hold true for everyone. The average DB torrent downloads in about 10 min for me. But that’s because there are allot of people DL the same torrent. Some of these anime take allot longer because they’re not as popular. So, most of the time I use the direct link.

PhuzyBuny Says:
July 13th, 2008 at 2:46 pm

Seriously, where in the world are you to get 5MB/s torrents? 20-25 mins is a more realistic 250KB/s.

ThatGuy Says:
July 13th, 2008 at 10:36 pm

Even on a 15meg cable line the best I can do is 1mb/s

brokensoul Says:
July 13th, 2008 at 10:38 pm

torrent speed doesnt really depend on ur connection speed. -.-

silentmoon Says:
July 14th, 2008 at 1:39 am

i saw alot of seeds is from US or UK.. and the speed from those line is slow.. so i think it is the country’s problem…
