Jungle Emperor Leo / Kimba the White Lion was one of the first few anime series of Osamu Tezuka, the grandfather of anime and predates The Lion King by literally DECADES. Disney were originally making a Kimba movie, but then dropped it when Tezuka;s company wanted it’s fare share -Disney then used all the story boards & prep work to create Lion King… this is reasonably common knowledge amongst older anime fans.

It’s not one of the older series, it’s the 2009 OVA. Wish they would name it something distinctive to tell it apart, though; all 15-ish shows/movies/OVAs are AAAAAALLLL named jungle emperor or kimba…

Are you being ironic? Astro Boy has a new CGI movie coming out this year and Battleship Yamato (not a Tezuka anime, but still classic) has a live-action movie in the works and a remake on the way!! Now if they remade PRINCESS KNIGHT, that would be, uhm… nice!

Actually I was refering to the old animes in both cases, I wasn’t aware of a Battleship Yamato movie, looking forward to that so long as it doesn’t turn out to be something corny.
