January 13th, 2011 at 8:12 pm
“Wandering Son (放浪息子, Hōrō Musuko) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Takako Shimura.
The story depicts a young boy named Shūichi Nitori who wants to be a girl, and his friend Yoshino Takatsuki, a girl who wants to be a boy. The series deals with issues such as transsexuality, gender identity, and the beginning of puberty.”……. hmmmm not sure if I want to watch this yet.

January 13th, 2011 at 8:35 pm
What the hell is wrong with Japan ??
The quality of anime is going down
January 13th, 2011 at 8:43 pm
Some of these comments… I just can’t. ಠ_ಠ
Thanks for the upload, have been excited for this show.
January 13th, 2011 at 8:52 pm
cant believe ppl is so narrow minded these days >_<
January 13th, 2011 at 8:53 pm
Thumbs down for everyone, who is so insecure about their sexuality, that they hate on maybe interesting anime without a reason, as for me it’s interesting topic, something different from the generic mahou/mecha/fighting shit.
January 13th, 2011 at 8:55 pm
@Yony
neh shut up. its got nothing to do with sexual insecurity but boredom and irrelevance. The number of people who are sexually confused is not so high that it needs a high number of shows.
January 13th, 2011 at 8:57 pm
besides, you’re thumbing down people who are insecure about their sexuality, while Im sure none of the ones who commented were insecure at all. You’re jumping the innocent ones.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:00 pm
Yony, stfu. People who are secure in their sexuality know what parts they were born with and how to use them. You’ve got it quite backwards.
Instead of tossing meaningless insults around, maybe you should focus on fixing your own ignorance and intolerance and accept the fact that the overwhelming majority of the population don’t want to watch this disgusting crap.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:02 pm
I was SO waiting for this thx!
January 13th, 2011 at 9:06 pm
@Rai
I’m sorry are you the person who lives in Saudi Arabia? If my meaning isn’t obvious I can state it more clearly for you: FUCK OFF YOU IGNORANT ASSHOLE. Is that clear enough for you? :)
January 13th, 2011 at 9:11 pm
all people who are insecure about their sexual got offended by Yony’s comment, LOL
January 13th, 2011 at 9:14 pm
Here’s all I needed to know; I looked down and saw I had a penis. I knew what I was and what I needed to do. You can’t seem to figure that out, even though you know perfectly well how the human body works…so why am I the insecure one?
Think. And realize that insults only put your lack of confidence on display.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:14 pm
*shiver*
January 13th, 2011 at 9:26 pm
Okay, an instant no show for me.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:26 pm
*sigh* damn people these days get offended so easily.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:36 pm
Why do people immediately assume because there are two “traps” it’s a fanservice-ridden mess?
The manga is brilliant I hope the anime adaptation is equally wonderful.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:39 pm
all nonsence aside…. there that was easy!
Thanks commander`A for the episode
January 13th, 2011 at 9:39 pm
Rai, I’m going to have to disagree with you here. It’s an anime, and there are tons out there that you can watch in place of this one. Hell, you haven’t even watched the first episode (or maybe you have, and even then, it’s only the first episode) so it’s impossible for you to give a good critique of the anime.
Will the dialogue be well written? What issues will it address? etc etc etc.
With your argument, that’s like saying all of us human beings look at ourselves in the morning and realize we can’t do alchemy, so why should I be watching an anime that talks about alchemy because it has nothing to do with what I am or what I am capable of doing. Oh right, anime is a medium that allows for these issues and imaginations to run wild and shed light on some sensitive ones as well.
So cut some people here a slack and give the anime a chance. If not, then just don’t watch it, but you don’t need to go around telling everyone off that they’re all “ignorant”. Doing that just makes yourself look ignorant.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:45 pm
Dudes, the negativity against this show has nothing to do with being insecure, but with the mangakas/producers and what not making lame ass stories about people and their problems that nobody a interest for, that said I haven’t watched this so I wait for further judgement after I downloaded it.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:55 pm
this anime is gay, dropped at very first episode…nice..
January 13th, 2011 at 10:03 pm
I watch this piece of gay shit for the art. :)
January 13th, 2011 at 10:05 pm
I’m going to try it
January 13th, 2011 at 10:07 pm
The art in this one was beautiful. The story wasnt much to my liking though. But I guess it concerns an important subject. I like the girl in the boys uniform =)
January 13th, 2011 at 10:07 pm
will be an intriguing watch =P
January 13th, 2011 at 10:08 pm
pretty dramatic and seems to have my fav genre, romance in it xD definite watch
January 13th, 2011 at 10:10 pm
The Directors/writers must be desperate for anime ideals or they got some guts to put and anime that talk about those issue. Those issue are highly personal and can be scrutinized in many ways. I watched it this anime it way to conversal to fast. They so slowly introduced these issue throughout the series.
January 13th, 2011 at 10:13 pm
LOL It’s like Ranma for the 21st century.
Jokes aside, while it’s not something I’m looking to watch, it shows not all anime are cookie cutter retreads.
January 13th, 2011 at 10:14 pm
@rai
OH my god I am swayed! You ever think that maybe confidence your irrational predudices might perhapse be a negative thing? And I don’t really take ofence at being called insecure in my sexualty, because I don’t care what it is regardless.
@TheWriter
I absolutely agree with you! Without “To Love-Ru” how would we deal with being forced to marry space princess. “Ore no Imouto” teaches you how to deal with your sisters tsundere lust for her brother. And havent we all had been forced into at least on Grail War or two. Seeing as how transgered people face no challeges in life any anime/manga that expresses such themes is irrelevent to society at large where we strugle each day to keep our names and faces away from Kira.
January 13th, 2011 at 10:36 pm
Who else will sub this?
January 13th, 2011 at 10:41 pm
Damn it man, this thing should be forbidden, for the sake of our childs.
LOL… just LOL
January 13th, 2011 at 10:56 pm
gotta see it… thank you!
January 13th, 2011 at 10:57 pm
wow this was getting good until i found out that its a gay romance story LOL, if anyone read the manga or knows whats going to happen can you tell me if hes gonna turn straight please? lmao
January 13th, 2011 at 11:01 pm
The internet should be forbidden for the sake of our children’s grammar.
January 13th, 2011 at 11:09 pm
Did the boy at the end have a wet dream? That was bizarre.
January 13th, 2011 at 11:15 pm
@TheWriter: “Waaaah. A studio is making an anime adaptation of a manga that deals with important issues instead of making an adaptation of my favorite manga!”
Just because you have absolutely no interest in these kind of affairs doesn’t mean other people can’t enjoy it.
January 13th, 2011 at 11:46 pm
u know what im enjoy reading the comments u guys post, even more so than watching this gay ass anime. is that a good thing???
January 13th, 2011 at 11:56 pm
Well ok then, I’m sorry for calling you guys insecure, but I don’t know, why is everyone hating on this show just becouse of the plot.. and I don’t think this show is aimed at transvestites or gay people any more than mecha shows are aimed at mecha pilots :D. It’s probably meant to be something original..
January 13th, 2011 at 11:59 pm
so many ppl watching this
you ppl have problems
I think you’ve got it backwards buddy…
January 14th, 2011 at 12:03 am
Yo me got 99 problems, but ’tis really ain’t one of them :D
January 14th, 2011 at 12:17 am
I don’t see the point in the bitching here, you afraid of seeing something that’s a little different from the usual robot-bashing boob-swinging stuff? At least they put some thought in this, and the art is just to stay true to the manga. To be honest, I like it.
January 14th, 2011 at 12:18 am
now this is actually a really good anime it deals with problems that most of us never will face (gender identity) and problems we all go trough (puberty) growing up. and sorry to disappoint you all but this a lot more than trap anime. this kind of demographic is more for the mature open minded viewer so if your expecting to see some shitty anime filled with fan service and girls with humongous boobs this anime is not for you
January 14th, 2011 at 12:19 am
THE OP IS CATCHY, that all I care :D .
January 14th, 2011 at 12:24 am
@otaku_ex
you won’t be having any so don’t worry about it
January 14th, 2011 at 12:25 am
my god!! so much ignorance in this place how old are you people fucking 10, grow the fuck up.
January 14th, 2011 at 12:27 am
You can edit comments? Sweet, how do you do that?
Hi-mit-su ^^
January 14th, 2011 at 12:31 am

January 14th, 2011 at 12:55 am

January 14th, 2011 at 12:58 am
looks different will give a try or two
January 14th, 2011 at 1:09 am
Well at least it has a unique style of illustration and interesting beginning. I was laughing so hard when that guy ran out of his house (GOT CAUGHT AHHAH). I’m going to keep watching only because of the lolz.
January 14th, 2011 at 1:49 am
lolness. Just. lolness.
January 14th, 2011 at 1:53 am
if it is cute then fuck it – there is no gay….lol
Loving the insecurities in these posts.
January 14th, 2011 at 2:25 am
well I watched the first episode. It was interesting. But I’m not going to judge this show after just watching the first episode. But I had a very good first impression of this show so far. I don’t know if I’m going to watch it every week. But I definitly going to watch some more of Hourou Musuko
January 14th, 2011 at 3:03 am
I watched this giving it a chance like I did Kuragehime since I enjoyed every single bit of Kuragehime.
This show is just plain confusing. It starts you off assuming that you’ll know everyone’s name right off the bat with one introduction. Then it tells of past events without flashbacks to further confuse me.
Also, the anime is incredibly shiny, which is usually reserved for dream sequences, so unless this whole anime is a dream, it’s breaking some rules.
Still gonna watch it, hopefully it picks up better next episode.
January 14th, 2011 at 3:12 am
since this show is being bombarded by lots of insecure moralfags, im gonna give this show a try!
January 14th, 2011 at 3:19 am
not exactly an unheard of theme in anime and manga
January 14th, 2011 at 3:33 am
Com-on, this is ridiculous. Who wants to watch the ideals and hopes of a boy/girl desiring to be the opposite sex. Seriously, what genre would this anime even be under??? Not even going to waste my time with this.
January 14th, 2011 at 4:00 am
you guys = tldr
Thank you for the upload
January 14th, 2011 at 4:34 am
It’s a trap! XD
January 14th, 2011 at 4:47 am
boy who want to be a girl,,, he is Hentai!!,,but the animation is pretty good,,
January 14th, 2011 at 4:50 am
It’s actually about Transsexuals. You know? Those rare breed of people with two genitals? Double Trap!
January 14th, 2011 at 4:57 am
Yeah, I don’t know what to think about this yet honestly. Maybe a second episode will help me understand the story better. I was sort of lost and reading these comments definitely didn’t help clear anything up lol. I’m not really complaining about the storyline’s concept, but the plot delivery was meek, just left me scratching my head.
January 14th, 2011 at 4:58 am
it’s not tranny lol. it’s about a boy and people he meet that want to become of the opposite sex. i read the manga, it’s good story and plot, nothing creepy or disgusting.
-i am completely straight.
January 14th, 2011 at 4:59 am
Honestly, people are free to think what they want and spread their opinion about this anime.
END. OF. STORY.
Now, stfu. Btw, I’m dropping this anime. :)
January 14th, 2011 at 5:00 am
^^Talking to the people bitching at the beginning of comments.
January 14th, 2011 at 5:04 am
honestly if you think about it, if you feel uncomfortable and disgusted by this anime, maybe you are the one that is confused of his gender orientation. if you’re truly straight, you would not feel strange or creeped out.
-just feels like the world has too many wasted minds which cannot comprehend tolerance.
January 14th, 2011 at 5:19 am
really good manga, hope it does it justice
January 14th, 2011 at 5:21 am
Hmm. I think it’s interesting and accurate. It’s fun to try and understand different people’s perspectives in this world.
GID (gender identity disorder) is a pretty serious issue. And it’s not something a person can run away from. If some of the “manly” homophobic posters ever have a kid like that, I’d feel really sorry for that kid.
This anime illustrates the emotional hardship of dealing with this issue socially. If you don’t like that concept, stop b1tching and watch something else. :)
January 14th, 2011 at 5:41 am
At first I didn’t think I would like this anime, cause I am not particularly interested in this sort of issue. But, you know what, it was quite good. Confusing at first though, but good enough to watch more episodes!!
After watching this I started to read the comments, and I got really disappointed with the prejudice of some people here… It is not about being insecure or ignorant… it is about respect. People are different, think different and not everybody goes through the same experiences…
It is not at all necessary to be so disrespectful about this anime. It is ok to not want to watch because you are not interested on the subject, but there is no need to offend people.
Open up your eyes and see that the world is no longer black and white. Things are not so simple as they appear for some people. Instead of offending them for being different, try to help, or at least back off. We don’t need any more hate in this world!
January 14th, 2011 at 5:41 am
the animation style give me Aoi Hana vibe
January 14th, 2011 at 5:45 am
Darn, that’s a lot of comments, well man the Art it’s simply amazing, awesome. The History it’s kind of slow, but reflect the conflicted mind of the principal characters, regardless the anime only give you some hints on this 1st episode, you can get on your own conclusions.
I enjoyed Kuragehime, but this one it’s completely different. Let’s give it a try.
Leaving aside all the stoopid comments, looks like it will be a good anime.
Come on we already have a lot of traps, travesties, sex gender change, incest, and you are crying now for this. Can’t believe it.
January 14th, 2011 at 6:43 am
I read the manga for a while. It’s fine for a few chapters, but after a while it becomes surreal and outright disgusting. It’s not a realistic portrayal of gender insecurity, so its just a retarded misinterpretation. Watch it for the art but don’t start thinking the plot has some meaning or insight to it.
January 14th, 2011 at 8:05 am
those who bitch about this are not afraid of people with gender confusion. Im pretty sure theyre more afraid of the ideas things like this might give to some people. People who are normal otherwise, but who are easily affected. Nobody knows really how this affects the human mind.
January 14th, 2011 at 10:42 am
sexuality aside,
the story is being told rather well.
i empathize with the burden a young person must have keeping such secrets.
if life ‘is give and take’,
the only people forcing you
to ‘take it up the ass’
is your boss, your jailmate,
or the government,
not a cartoon.
January 14th, 2011 at 12:49 pm
boring! – shouldnt this show be a live action on cable? it’s Hydeoshi X’s 2 – I guess.
January 14th, 2011 at 1:08 pm
A double trap animu *thinks if it’s worth it*
January 14th, 2011 at 4:22 pm
i hate traps, but this show looks interesting and funny. The art unique and realy good! ovp:7/10
January 15th, 2011 at 12:05 am
omg this about sexual identity not sexual orientation surprisingly it is not even stated in the manga that the kids are gay the boy even starts dating a girl and is in love with the girl who wants to be a boy. and this more of a seinen/josei anime if your squeamish about this subject don’t watch this.
January 15th, 2011 at 6:01 am
One of my favorite manga of all time; very pleased to see this animed. It’s so much more intricate and mature than all of the “lololol trap animu!” comments that are filling this page.
January 15th, 2011 at 7:57 am
I really enjoyed this anime now i hope this becomes a j drama
January 15th, 2011 at 9:38 am
nope, i cant do this >__>
January 15th, 2011 at 3:13 pm
not sure i like this kind, but will see ;d, thanks for upload;]
January 15th, 2011 at 5:52 pm
This seems like a win…but I better watch it first…
January 15th, 2011 at 5:57 pm
himjl are you related to Adolf Hitler …
are you think you are from superior race or what …. this is anime site not racism site …
January 16th, 2011 at 12:02 am
A lovely beginning, art-wise and story-wise. This anime stands out from the usual pack of shiny action/mecha/moe-driven shows that come out every season. This is a slice of life show in the truest sense. The director also apparently took great pains to keep the style of the anime as close to the style of the manga as possible. The names of a lot of characters are thrown at you in the beginning, but I get the feeling any confusion will be cleared up later.
There seem to be a lot of people who misunderstand the theme of this show. It’s about discovering one’s own sexuality, but it’s also about the love affair Japan has had with androgyny since Okuni of Izumo invented Kabuki. At the same time, Horou Musuko’s characters weren’t created for the same reason characters like Hideyoshi from Baka Test or Pico from Boku no Pico were created. This story is a study of gender identity and growing up in a very honest, un-exploitive way.
January 17th, 2011 at 3:32 am
Well it was pretty down to earth.
Same art style as Aoi Hana I think.
It was not generic at least.
Shounen Ai should be in the genres on MAL :P
One need an open mind at least.
January 19th, 2011 at 8:15 am
omg, this is just that “one” anime. stop arguing amongst each other because of petty stuffs like this >:D
everyone has their own opinion, but just keep it to yourself
January 27th, 2011 at 8:09 am
Get tired reading all the comment section but then I will answer some question
Han-Nuel Says:
January 14th, 2011 at 3:33 am
Com-on, this is ridiculous. Who wants to watch the ideals and hopes of a boy/girl desiring to be the opposite sex. Seriously, what genre would this anime even be under??? Not even going to waste my time with this
Genre? This is definietly slice of life. This is good anime the song is good too.
January 29th, 2011 at 4:58 am
You know, I’d like to be all accepting and whatnot, but honestly, the premise itself doesn’t really interest me. That being said, I’m one of those people who harps on the lack of originality in everything these days. Thusly, I’m going to give this a shot. I’m betting I’ll finish it.
April 2nd, 2011 at 7:50 pm
