^That’s little to do with compression
The Standard for video compression now is MP4 compression in an MKV container.
Audio could be anything, but the audio part wouldn’t be large unless it’s 7.1 AC3 or Ogg.
There should be no reason why it should hit 400 megs, especially if it’s an up-scale.

tbh i prefer the video quality of shinji over eclipse, sharper, brighter colours.
Now if they could mix eclipse’s subs with shinji video it’d be the best!

H262 is in the Mpeg4 family H.264/AVC/MPEG-4 So it is Mp4 just an updated version.
That file’s audio is still Stereo and 16 bit I might add.
Yet the Video is 1280×720….Seems very suspectious if you’re going HD why do it half-way and still go over 400 megs. The 360 is about right for HD sans because the video bitrate is doubled from SD, So what’s that extra 40 megs for?

My bad, I found the 40 megs. My log was only showing the default decoding for stereo..gotta change my defaults.
The Audio channels were more numberous than I thought.

The Blurays might be worth having in 1080p, the TV broadcast is not.
You don’t seem to understand that the more bitrate something has, the better it will look(up until lossless). It’s pretty simple. I’m not sure where you’re getting lost on that. It would probably take up to 600MB, or more, before the differences were no longer visible.

Nope Still Stereo, too bad.
I’m still trying to find exactly why the difference is so big..
the only difference I can find is Shinji subs uses AAC while Eclipse uses Ogg Vorbis….Everything else is the same.

Only Difference I can see is obviously the Audio compression. The Video compression is the same.

Compare the image between shinji and eclipse during high motion
it’s sharper & less blocky on shinji
also the contrast on shinji looks much better

You’re joking, right Quirriff? I don’t even know what to say right now. Probably something about x264 settings, or avisynth filters, or bitrate… I certainly don’t want to spend my time trying to give you a basic understanding of how encoding is done. Try google.
