I lolled so hard at this: http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/0...mes-is-piracy/

Quote:
Makers Visual Arts (having just released popular lolicon title Kudo Wafter) and Aquaplus (White Album) are warning players that uploading videos of their games to sites like NicoNico Douga constitutes copyright infringement and that they face years in jail and huge fines for unauthorised distribution if they disobey company demands that they cease uploading.
So what do you think, pro or...FAIL?

Fail. Games tend to propogate/get sold, when people know of them. Stopping that has the direct knock-on effect of reducing game sales.

In a visual novel, it doesn't really matter if you're the one clicking, as there's no real gameplay. In Japan, it's pretty notorious that some people just watch the game off sites instead of buying it, thus saving money. This is not going to hurt their sales at all.

I don't see the fun in not being able to make any choices. Although if there's no choices I usually don't find them as interesting so I wouldn't buy them to begin with. But it's like watching the outcome of a video game like (let's say Mass-Effect) over the internet, just look at all possible outcomes and sorts of gameplay so you don't have to buy the game?
Then where's the fun in shooting and talking to characters in game to find out stuff that you would've never thought possible?

Of course there's not that much actions in visual novels but for me, it's the same thing.

Well, some people are poorer and don't care enough; and with the visual novel scene being a huge piracy fest in the first place, whiners by people who don't even buy their games are not going to get through to makers at all, for damn good reasons.

Nothing gets through in the first place, "Pirates" or not. The industry is generally just blind and deaf to the costumer if you ask me...
