I believe humanity is too self-destructive to get to that state.
If we do hit it however, I think it will be solved with more nature cutting first, then building underground an even higher above ground. Finally ending up in a jungle of buildings which will lead to riots, diseases and vandalism. Which are preludes to more destructive happenings. Aka self-destruction.
I happened to hear that view of humanity's self-destructive impulses a while ago in an Anime somewhere, come to think of it might have been Dance in the Vampire Bund where they said the same things about the Vampires which, in my eyes, are very comparable with us. Of course them being fiction but still.
I know that in the last few ages and decades, humanity's population has skyrocketed, mainly due to people living longer due to better healthcare.
Yet I believe that'll be a dying trend soon enough. The more people there are, the more new diseases seem to be found, or older diseases which mutate and things like that.
Of course this is my opinion so I'm not going to flame others who have a different view. It just may be my own pessimism.
But I didn't know then, that a human can, just by living, damage another human being beyond repair. Haruki Murakami, Norwegian Wood
