Default Bruce Lee: "Boards... don't hit back" - 02-26-2011, 04:12 AM

Not that the story matters, but the guy that Bruce destroys in this scene was going to rape his sister... so she stabbed herself with a piece of glass.

Also, Chuck Norris is indeed involved in the greatest one on one fight scene ever... by getting his ass kicked.

I guess bruce has never been attacked by a board before. Those things are so ruthless.

Bruce Lee's fame should indicate influence only. He and his staff brought Eastern culture, ideas and some martial arts to the "west". I thank him for that. As for his skills as a martial artist, he and like many others in the movies today (Jet Li especially) were average in comparison to the masses of Chinese Martial Arts, but an average chinese martial artist up against a white blue collar, I train one hour a day job, is no match period. They have literally schools and train, eat, breathe martial arts. It there job. I hope people that read this keep all of it in mind thats its relative and i really hope someone doesnt write he was the best, etc. Thats plain misinformation and not true.

A better one on one fight: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Or any other Donnie Yen fight scene in the past few years or so (he was the guy who played Ip Man as well). Less iconic than the Bruce Lee vs Chuck Norris fight, but more entertaining to watch.

^I watched that video because I'm a fan of Donnie Yen, but I personally don't think it's better. Like the vid you posted, the Norris fight doesn't really start until a few minutes in. From 3:00 until about 6:00 in the Bruce vs Chuck fight there's just no better martial arts scene.

And this is just personal preference, but in the donnie fight all the choreography is based on whatever looks flashy; bruce despised anything in martial arts that was there for appearance or tradition. That entire fight scene with chuck was intended to teach the audience of bruce's own philosophies on fighting, which was something he continued to do in Enter the Dragon and Game of Death (the original). He starts the fight out using traditional Gung-fu and gets his ass kicked by Chuck, then at the 3:00 point he switches to his own Jeet Kune Do that was based on two principles: intercepting the attack of the opponent with your own attack, which you can notice if you look at Norris... if Bruce didn't simply dodge an attack then he was landing kicks or punches in the middle of Chuck's attacks. That's what Jeet Kune Do meant: way of the intercepting fist. And the other principle was to have no form or set stances, which is where the "hopping around" originated. I saw in the fight you posted Donnie at one point started doing that... and it made me groan. Maybe he put that in there as homage to Bruce though. Hopping or "dancing" around simply did not exist before Bruce because all forms of martial arts required the person being in a certain "ready stance". Bruce changed that.

edit:
btw, the clearest example of Bruce intercepting an attack is at 5:30... there's also a bunch of moments in the first video I posted
