many people like anime, but only a few people like galgame...I'm very confuse...

I think galgame is very interesting, why people don't like it?

(I am not living in English speaking country,so my English is very poor, sometimes I can't express what I think...so if you don't know what I said, please don't care about it 。

I think the issue is that there are very few translations of the games available, which means that unlike anime where there's a new episode of several different series available almost every day, you're lucky if you see two to three new titles a year. Which means there is none of the diversity that allows a large enough group to grow to promote the games, which means there aren't many translators or tools to make the games available to promote, and the vicious circle continues.

There are folks trying to make games in English directly, but the majority of those are done as a hobby, which means not enough money to give them the same production values, and so not as much interest.

My .02 worth in any case.

I think it's because people don't have enough time to go through a 30 hour story. No offence, I play them myself.

IMO galgames are rather pointless. Why would I want to waste x amount of time "conquering" imaginary women. I see no fun in any of that. I understand most games are the same premises of goals and achievement/"levels". But galgames seem to me a little bit of a waste. I tried one and was "WTF" and after 20 minutes threw it away. Why would I want to pretend to go on a date and have fun when I can actually do that. Also I find the conquest of your younger/older sister or random schools a little disturbing. I'm 25, I prefer women that are a bit more mature than tweeny something.

I'm in Afghanistan...... grrrrrrrrrrrr.

I've played a couple but as stated before, few of them actually become translated and since Japanese isn't available as a course at my school... well... you get the point.

Well I dunno about you, but people play them for the same reason that people play The Sims instead of just living their own life.

If you broke it down further, the reason people play any game with a story is to immerse themselves in it.

There are official sites that translate and sell these games, but it's a niche market so gal games are never really going to take off outside of Japan, especially since when you mention the term people think of hentai or Eroge.

Translation is the obvious problem here. There are approximately 1/10 galge that were translated to English. Probably lesser. Translating a galge/Visual Novels/Eroge whatever you call it is not an easy task like subbing an anime. As some people said earlier, if you're lucky you'll find 4-5 titles translated per year. And most of them are fans translation.

And galge didn't get good promotions because they're mainly exclusive to PC. Many company like Nintendo and Sony refused to licensed such product for their consoles. That is also one of the factor that makes galge almost unnoticable outside of Japan.

But I'm pleased that the community is growing here, not like some times ago when I'm virtually the only visitor of the VN thread. VN community is growing slowly, but steadily.

i think the main reason why galge are so unpopular is that people just cant be bothred with reading for hours and the fact that only a handful of them have been translated and even some of the translated ones are poorly done put people off and the majority of people who play these game are in it for either a h-scene or a story so the market for galges is too small for companies to seriously put money into these projects. with that being said i would love to see a galge that was simular to the seen in anime
