Applying the Pythagorean Theorom:
(x^2) + (x^2) = s^2 combine like terms to get 2 * x^2 = s^2 take the square root of both sides to get (sq. root of 2) * x = s divide both sides by (sq. root of 2) to get x = s/(sq. root of 2)

oh I see now...I told you it has been awhile. I never even thought to simplify it. What's so bad about leaving a square root in the denominator anyway?
Personally, I think s/sqrt(2) is simpler than [s*sqrt(2)]/2. That's just my opinion though.
