Cool Are Violent Video Games Preparing Kids For The Apocalypse? - 09-19-2010, 10:38 PM

Share your thoughts!

I know Borderlands has taught me to always open toilets to find ammo and money.

Also, Fallout 3 has taught me that nuking people in the post-apocalyptic future is okay if someone else is bankrolling you to do it. Splendid fireworks, Mr.Burke! Oh, and don't mess with post-apocalyptic dogs. They're built like tanks.

I remember how scandalized were my dad and my brother when I showed them FEAR.

I thought for a sec this was serious... only for a sec... Then I thought myself, that even US news networks can't possibly come up with this stupid shit.

Lightbulb Just saying... - 09-20-2010, 12:13 AM

Wow, preparing for the apocalypse, that's really a little exaggerated no?

I understand that the themes for the games are certainly rather " apocalyptic " but isn't that merely because the producers see such a theme as something that would " sell " to the public?

I see nothing more in the producers than people who aim to create a product to earn a lil more $$ for themselves. To say that the games are preparing kids for the apocalypse is (in my opinion) giving more credit to the producers than what they deserve for their work.

Note: Don't misunderstand me, i respect the work of the game producers... but i just don't see the games as something that's meant to prepare the current generation for the apocalypse.

Other POV: In case I misunderstood what this thread was supposed to be about. I do agree that the content of the games are certainly helping the current generation to become more open and accepting of the apocalypse, should it occur.

Should explain it all. It's just a lulz thing.

If you don't understand, I suggest youtubing their videos. They're all gold.

As pertaining to my original question, what have post-apocalyptic games taught you?

Play more MGS. Its obvious that these were endorsed by the military as VR training to get us to join them.

1. its always possible to heal back to full health.
2. there are some awesome weapons out there (acid bullets, plasma weapons etc.) but its the unexpected ones that are really strong (railway gun I'm looking at you)
3. it is entirely possible for a baby to become as strong as any man.
4. if you grow up in a post apocalyptic world, then you will be able to choose your own face, gender, and abilities.
5. there will be giant rats. and they will not be too strong.

And last but not least (and completely off topic) Beware the chocobos! They are strong!
