Default DVD players - 07-31-2010, 04:17 AM

Ive looked everywhere for an answer and can't seem to find a completely legit answer, so heres my question.

Can DVD players play Data discs with .mkv or .avi files on it? and if not is there a way to get .mkv burned to disc with subtitles still intact?

If your asking if you can burn MKV and other files formats on a dvd to watch on your DVD or Blue-Ray player, then yes you can, I do it all the time.

If that's not what you wanted to know then please explain further...

^ true though some dvd players cannot play the mkv format.. avi is an easier format and i think every player will play it.. if you are DLing from here in mkv, then it will have all the sub titles and such when you play it.. SOny PS3 does not play mkv files

^True. You have to convert it. You cannot simply drag those file to a disc and expect your player to play it. You have to have a program that converts and burns the files to a disc. "ConvertXtoDVD" is the best IMO, all you do is drag the files, choose your menu style, and click convert and it will convert and burn the files to a dvd.

If you don't want to convert and have some money to spend [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] could be an option. It supports .mkv formats, so you can just throw your HD .mkv videos into a USB (or external harddisk), plug it in to the player and voila; it plays nice and smoothly.

btw i have never heard of a dvd-player able to play .mkv files??

I made my own sig, I didn't think it was that good that people would try to take credit... Bordem and time is an amazing thing too bad I stopped making sigs along time ago. ^^;

Have you tried turning on the subs in your player? I'm pretty sure every remote controller has a caption or subtitle button as well as an audio button.

Well, if you ask me, I'm using the MKV2DVD to convert mkv and burn it on DVD.
It's great and easy to use; support subtitle and multiple audio.

i have a portable Dvd player that also has a USB hub...it can play almost everything other than a mkv file...so i use XVID4PSP to convert it avi then burn it as a data dvd and play it...but if u burn like a normal dvd with menus i think i got upto 5 episodes a dvd without much loss in quality...
