Default Conversion Issue (Xvid4Psp) - 05-28-2010, 02:12 PM

Hey, I can convert mkv to avi/mp4 just fine, but I can never seem to get the subtitles. Anyone know how to do this?

i use mkvmerge GUI 3.3.0 works fine with most of the files

you just have to set subs as default track => yes

zainali, what version are you using? Version 6.001 is still in beta and is not fully functional as of yet. Winnydows is still implementing subtitle features. In order to properly encode subtitles, you need to use version 5.0.

Very simple, mkv files use soft subtitle in the .ass format( most fansub-groups use this because program for it is freeware), but the avi and mp4 can't use softsubtitle's on hardsub( this are subs that are burned in the video file like the releases of dattebayo). The reason that subs disappear is that the video encoder doesn't know this type of file, you can still re-add them, but most video muxers make it back ass a mkv.
The only way is to use another software.

I also use this one a lot, except that you will end up with a mkv.
... Found out how to do, I was a bit shocked you can just type the extension...

Just use Sony's 'Media Go' software.. from what I've seen its about as fast as Xvid4PSP and encodes at Xvid's higher(est) settings. Subtitles haven't been an issue regardless of the container or format.

Default Here's your guide & issue answer LOL - 05-30-2010, 04:24 AM

okay..seems like Edward gotta make some huge ass guide XD...well not really, but I'll make it as short as possible. Alright here we go.

Also Be4 We start this process uninstall anything codec related from ur pc and etc meaning vlc, cccp, etc from your pc so it wont get fucked up n etc, make sure you got your DirectX and silverlight installed on your pc as well.

NOTE: Its been known that XviD4PSP wont work on most Windows 7 OS, so don't lay some cruddy ass comments and etc, this is my guide, don't like it? go look somewhere else >=3

Okay first lets start off by downloading [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] after it's done downloading go ahead and install it, and make sure you check all the lil boxes while going through the installation.

After you have managed to install, download the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] as you have finished downloading this, install it, it will detect any other codecs be4 u install it, it will ask you if you want to remove them and such, just keep clicking yes and keep clicking next and all of that,(BTW make sure you do click to install Vobsub during the installation if it asks you, if it doesn't don't worry it will be installed) and at some point it will have a lil bar ontop, like it will say profile or whatever, don't change it, just click next to whatever its been set to, and then more options and stuff, and I don't remember much but it will say like, make mkv files get thumbnails? and stuff and click yes,, and it will have like an stereo option, just click next or whatever, and after your done installing it, reboot your computer.(restart it)

After your have done so open the XviD4PSP program and click on open and select your mkv file, after it has cached and collected info and stuff, click on video all the way ontop(gray menu bar) and click on resolution/aspect and set it to 704x400 and then instead of lancos or whatever its called on the resize filter set it to BicubicResize and the click on ok. Now click on the format thing and set it to AVI Hardware, after that you see where it says video encoding? click the letter E beside it, a window will pop up which are da vid encoding settings, now instead of constant quality set it to 2-Pass Bitrate, after that look below it, which is the Bitratekbps) instead of 23?? whatever four digit numbers, type in 850, and now look below it should say Preset: set it to custom.

Okay now look on that window your still on look at the top, make sure its set to XviD and the bottom which says FOURCC: set it to XVID, now that we got that done click ok, then voila hit Encode, and a lil window will pop up, rename it if you want and choose where your gonna save the file at, then click save now the encoding window will pop-up and instead of idle click on normal, beside it, it should be set to wait, and you might want to minimize the whole XviD4PSP program because it encode just a lil bit faster idk why though but it does, after it runs the first and last pass it will run the audio encoding part which is really quick, and after its done click on play or close the program and find the file you encoded and play it :] BTW don't worry, it will have subs.

Also since you got K-Lite Mega Codec Pack installed on your pc, it can play .mkv files in windows media player as well.

and if you got any issues following any of the above or so just post a comment, n I'll try to help you as much as possible

This didn't really explain the issue but here is the answer, since you loaded teh .mkv to XviD4PSP I'm assuming you don't have VobSub so it wouldn't be able to load the subs as well when you loaded that .mkv to the program.
