Fifteen years ago this was a lot easier question to answer. Back then you had your choice of the Motorola StarTac and everything else. Now there are just to many really great phones to say "this is the everybody wants".
I think it will be much easier for you to choose a phone by the features it provides. I'm not taking about apps. Most apps are universal to most of the smart phones on the market.
Another factor is the OS. Personally I would go with and Android phone. Then look at the features from there. Also (though this may seem obvious, many overlook this aspect), how does the phone feel in your hand when your using it. And of course how does it handle games. Your not going to be carrying around your PS Vita where ever you go.

I thought so... picking a phone from back in 2000 is way different to now.
Features you say... to tell you the truth, I'm not interested in any "new" features though yeah it might be useful to me for my daily life.
As for the OS, I'm planning to go for Android. From the experience, iOS was alright however I'm just fed up with it that I need something new.
Well it was my original intention to carry around my PSV though yeah, I guess you can't carry them around wherever you go. As for the grip and feel of the actual phone, I'll just have go to local dealer and check them out first hand.
Hmm maybe I should of not posted this. Probably pointless to ask people about something that I have to choose by myself.
Than again, I'm lazy and too tired to do anything, and I don't even use my phone that much so...
