Default Blinking mouse on FireFox wtf? - 01-07-2012, 12:22 PM

The issue started not long ago when my mouse started to spaz and blink to the point where I can't even recognize where the mouse is.

I've searched for the problem and it turns out that adobe flash plugin was causing the problem. So, when I disabled it, the spaz was gone and everything went back to normal.

Now, I know that the problem has been solved but, this means that I have to leave it as disabled unless I'm watching streaming videos which I always do. So is there a way to fix this problem completely without having to disable the flash plugin?

Also, I don't know why this happened so suddenly... I haven't done anything with firefox lately so this is kind of random for me.

For specs, I have latest version of firefox and using Win 7 64 bit.

Thanks guys, help would be appreciated it.

NOTE: I think my PC hates me... printer can't connect to my PC, spyware invaded my PC, random missing files in my 1TB baby, this problem... god -_-;;

random missing files.. sounds like a worm.
best option would be to backup anything you need on ext HD and then format everything for clean install.
if you can't be arsed with that you could always do a boot time scan with w/e anti-virus you have.

for the flash problem, just reinstall it at the latest stable version compatible with your browser.

do a clean install after creating a full backup. if u know how to use ghost or shadow protect or any free alternatives use it.

then install an anti virus, free avg if u dont want to spend money.

then install spybot search and destroy.

or alternatively just install the programs and do a FULL/DEEP scan.

choco have you tried a previous version of Firefox? Sometimes newer is not better. Try uninstalling your current version and try 7.0. It's what I use for win7 x64 and it's the most stable I've used. Make sure you disable updates before you remove your current version. That way it won't update until you say so. You can also do the same with adobe flash plugin.

Try running a system scan.
Click the Start Orb
Type "cmd" in the search box (without quotes)
Right-click "Cmd" in the search results, then click "Run As Administrator"
In the Command Prompt, type "sfc /scannow" (without quotes) and press <ENTER>
It's a simple scan but sometimes it works wonders.

As for the other issues don't do a clean install until you have exhausted all other options. First check the Backup and Restore feature in windows 7. You have two features in win 7 you can try. The first is "Restore your computer to an earlier time". I would try this first simply because it's easier. The second is "Restore from a back-up". If they set your comp up right when you had it built then you should have a back-up of your system that you can use to restore to a time before the issues started to appear. Just make sure that you save a copy of things that frequently change like your Bookmarks before using this method. The best way I've found is to make a copy of the AppData under users. With this you can restore things like customized setting from Firefox.

Make sure that you run a full scan with your anti-virus also.

Let me know your progress.

Choco a quick question for you, does this blinking happen continuously or sporadically?

The blinking mouse cursor can occur anytime improperly scripted or partially incompatible flash content is displayed in the browser. Usually its related to some ad on the site from my experience.
You can check by enabling flash and going a site with no flash content or ads like Wikipedia or Google's main page's.

Before I checked your reply, I've uninstalled the current version (latest) and installed again. I did the same thing for flash plugin (latest) and now the problem is gone... for now imo. But still, I'm not sure if the problem will occur again so I'll downgrade it to 7.0 and see how it goes. As for flash, do you have any suggestions for which version to use?
Oh and the reason why I'm using the latest version is because couple of month ago, I couldn't hear any sounds from streaming videos and I've tried every solutions but I just couldn't fix it. So, I upgraded to the latest version and it fixed the problem. If I remember correctly, I was using 3.6.13 though hopefully, 7.0 won't cause the same problem.

Right now, I'm running a system scan so hopefully that will do something...

As for the other problem, I've tried the first option like you said (with copies being made before I executed the command) and done the scans including malware/spyware. Miraculously, my lost files have been restored and everything went back to normal. The malware that infected my PC was also gone as well...

So, as you can see all problems (nearly, printer still being a dick but w.e) have been fixed for now... though I'm afraid it might happen again in future. I guess I'll have to scan regularly.
As for Firefox, I'll see how 7.0 goes. Lately, FireFox has been very unreliable such as fonts issues, this blinking mouse etc... Though its still better than IE from my experence.

Anyway, thanks for the reply digritz.

It was continuously blinking, spazzing out like it was possessed by a demon or something. The problem was flash plugin so I uninstalled and installed again and it fixed the problem.

Though, I still can't guarantee if this will happen again... so I'm following digritz's advice and see how it goes.

Oh look another problem, nice...

It seems that whenever I type anywhere in Firefox, there is a quick lag/stop (for about less than a sec) for every couple sentences I type. Basically, it gets choppy for some reason...

Is this a problem or am I just being paranoid? I think this is a problem since this didn't happened before.

P.S Tried typing on IE and Opera, wasn't choppy or lagging.

Extra: I nearly got scammed... this Indian guy called me and he said my Pc is infected and told me to go to this site [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and click the green button. I did so and it prompt me to download this .exe file. However, I was skeptical so I checked the website before I clicked okay to install exe and many forums suggests that its a scam. So I immediately closed window and site and told the guy to f$#@ off. lol

I guess, I've been saved just by an inch? what do you think? In the first place, I should of just hang up the phone from the start...

i'd go to your bank and request a new bank card..
incase he has details on that as well as your address and phone number..

format everything clean install, it sounds like you have a worm/keylogger/probably more.

That's not good. You should've disconnected from the internet, cleared all cookies & cache (from your browsers) and then a full system scan with malwarebytes (best in safe mode).
Then you'd be best to change your PC's password and then finally you can connect again to the internet.

But hey, I have no idea how you managed to get your pc in such a state.
