Default Videos freezing - 11-27-2011, 01:55 AM

I have download a bunch of episodes from different anime seasons and someimes the image will freeze but the audio will keep on going and then the picture will go back to normal around 10 seconds has passed. I was watching "The place promised in our early days" last night and it would do this sometimes. It also happens with Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood. I am using VLC player. Any suggestions?

First stop using vlc, either use wecp with mpc or cccp with mpc. Next check the files you are downloading is it high resolution mkv? make sure your graphic/video card is up to date as well. Once you had done or gone over all these, and if the video still play bad, get a new pc or upgrade your current one. But seriously dont use vlc its know not to properly play high resolution videos. And it would help if you state the file type being played as well.

What kind of file is it? 720p? 1080p? .mkv?, .avi?

I've never had a problem with VLC on my new Intel i5 system although, I did have an old Pentium 4 Dell that would have trouble playing 720p videos. I think that your computer isn't up for the task of playing those cpu intensive videos.

I do have a few suggestions though, I remember putting VLC.exe to highest priority in windows task manager. That helped quite a bit with the lag on my old dell. Also, close programs that are not in use to free up memory. If those options do not work you're either going to have to download a lower quality version like 480p or just upgrade your computer all together.

Hope I helped and good luck!

P.S. What are your computer specs? Can you post them please?

There are so many things that could be causing your problem that it is difficult to diagnose the cause. In your case with the limited information you provided it's virtually impossible to give you any kind of definitive answer.
How often does the video freeze? Does it aways freeze at the same point? What type/quality, (such as 1080hi10, 1080, 720, 360), of video does it freeze on?
Is this a new problem or has this been happening since you first started watching anime with your current system and set-up?

These are just a few get the picture. Instead of fishing for an answer you need to handle this problem by making some basic changes. Start by updating your video drivers. While your at it check to see if your video card, (if it's a card and not on-board video), can handle the type of video you want to watch. A lot of older cards will not take kindly to video like Hi10. It would be a good idea to switch from VLC to MPC and use CCCP for your codex. A lot of ppl use VLC and never have a problem. However since you are having trouble it's a good idea to make a change. Also make sure you delete any instances of VLC, MPC and all codex such as CCCP before installing new ones. Also check the processes running in Task Manager to make sure you are not running a boat load of unnesessary programs. Even with these changes your system may not be enough to run HD video but they will give you the best chance. Make sure you make a list of a few videos in all qualities you watch, (1080hi10, 1080, 720, 360), that you have trouble with before you make any changes. Once you have accomplished these tasks try your problem videos again. From this point on you are most likely looking at hardware upgrades.

If your still having issues post again but this time include more information. Such as computer specs, video card make and model, the player and codex your using and the types of video your having problems with and the changes you've made. To expect additional help your going to need to give a lot more details.

Thank you for the replies back.

My computer specs are:
Windows 7 home premium
Processor is Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6600 @ 2.20GHz
Ram is 4.00 GB (2.90 GB usable)
And my system type is 32-bit operating system

The video's that i am playing are in 1080p or sometimes 720p.

The videos don't freeze all the time possibly only 3 times during a episode or movie but its still very annoying. Also when the video freezes and then resumes the picture will get kinda weird for a few seconds. What i mean by that is little green boxes might show up in random places and then go away. It doesn't happen in the same spot.

Other then that the videos are fine. No video/audio lag what so ever.

Do you use DXVA? since your CPU power is bit lower than normal Full-HD CPU GHz-requirement 2,4Ghz(Dual-core requirement). On parts your video freezes, there might be really high bitrate peak, which your CPu alone can't handle, especially if your card isn't processing video at all. I have 3,2Ghz dual-core, and it can run any video flawlessly even without using DXVA.

does it happen when you play a file and skip it/jump to a different scene? i have that when ever i play wmv files 720p and up, it buffers > distorts > becomes normal again. if so that's your decoder or lack of processing power from your rig (but then again my i7 does that so let's just blame the decoder or the encoder ).

If you experience lagging or something like that, first update your codecs and mediaplayers if they're not up to date. (lol everyone will say this)
If lagging is still there, turn off some not really unnecessary programs for video like virus scanner & switch to basic or even classic theme.
Aero theme takes a lot of system resources, especially higher in playback when it's not needed, seriously.
It takes upto 30% GPU & 10% CPU while MPC-HC takes 60% GPU & 40% CPU when playing Eden of the East 1080p from CoalGirls for ex.
