Sup people. This is not a problem or anything, but I'm just curious of which cable is best to use for my PC/Monitor.
Moreover, this relates back to my previous thread I wrote in regarding to which cable I need to use for my PS3 on HDTV. And the solution was to get HDMI cable. So yeah, I've fixed my PS3 cable problem and now moved onto PC/Monitor. Currently, I have BenQ G2420HD hooked up into my PC with VGA cable. The settings are: - 1080p - 1920x1080 (Native) - Refresh rate: 60Hz - color depth: Highest (32-bit) It is great since its HD and the setup is good though, I've realized my PC has HDMI port. I've got a HDMI cable for hooking up PC to monitor as well, so I was wondering if I should switch from VGA to HDMI?? After my PS3 looked brilliant with HDMI on my HDTV, I was wondering if its actually same for PC/Monitor as well?? like better than VGA? Anyway, its not a immediate problem or anything though, I was kind of curious of whether VGA or HDMI is better to use in hooking up the monitor. Thanks guys again

VGA is the old version, I suggest you switch to HDMI.
Edit: if you're wondering, VGA is analog and HDMI is digital. - Last Signature Update: 24/05/2012 2:33pm GMT -

Ahh, I thought so...
I was searching through which one is better and it seems you HAVE to use DVI or HDMI when your PC/Monitor supports it... EDIT: My PC only has DVI and HDMI port so I'm guessing its wrong to use VGA |

I was thinking whether i should help you are not since you so easily agree to HDMI because one was analog or digital (dvi is digital).... crts are superior to hdtvs in terms of refresh rate... anyway im getting off-topic. whether or not you listen to me is up to you. But i recommend you use DVI. |

In regarding to DVI, I've just realized that my PC has 1 HDMI and 2 DVI ports. Meaning, I guess I was SUPPOSE to use either HDMI or DVI in the first place... the VGA right now is connected via DVI connector. I guess I'll have to get DVI cable asap... And also, my HDMI cable is not working anyway... when I plug it, it says no calbe plugged in so yeah... |

If HDMI isn't working then use DVI.
It's practically the same, except that HDMI can also transfer audio and it has HDCP (some kind of protection). - Last Signature Update: 24/05/2012 2:33pm GMT -

Refresh rates matter only on the old (huge, square & heavy) CRT (Cathode ray tube) monitors. It basically means how fast the screen will be refreshed (redraw what you see on it). chococya96 has a TFT-LCD (Thin film transistor liquid crystal display) monitor, refresh rates don't matter on those. VGA (Video Graphics Array) is an analog standard, it's the oldest and it has the lowest quality. DVI (Digital Visual Interface) is VGA's successor, it's digital and it has much better quality. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is basically DVI which includes also sound output. Also in order for someone to see movies in Blu-ray disks it's necessary to have an HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) supported graphic card & monitor, connected with DVI or HDMI. So to sum it up: VGA (Video Graphics Array): Oldest standard, analog, lowest quality, doesn't support HDCP. DVI (Digital Visual Interface): VGA's successor, digital, much better quality, supports HDCP. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface): basically DVI in disguise with sound, same quality as DVI, supports HDCP. Sources: PC Technician for 10 years |

I'll give you my personal experience. My Mame cab was hooked up to a 32 inch LCD via VGA. Good video quality, no problems at all. I bought a new video card for it, which had DVI/HDMI. The colors are the first thing I noticed. Very, very, bright, and rich.

There's really no reason to switch from VGA to HDMI/DVI unless you must, like in my case, i had problems with SC2 flickering when i used VGA, now my VGA port is for 360 and DVI for PC
It's pretty convenient if your monitor got all 3 ports, VGA for 360, DVI for PC, HDMI for PS3
