Default Mini Mkv Encoding Help - 07-01-2011, 10:19 AM

First of all i'd like to say i'm a total beginner at this encoding business
and i couldn't find a topic on this , and all google did was give me headaches

If someone would be kind enough to explain to me how do i convert an existing episode of anime into a smaller file commonly known as mini mkv

I tried following a guide i found but it got me no where ..

the program i used is staxrip and after playing around i managed to get a temp folder with all the contents of the original mkv file out , but now i just dont get how do i put it all back together .

Or could someone guide me to convert them using any other freeware that you are familiar with .

Thanks alot in advance .

There's some information: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Also, you can alternatively use [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Just check those 2 out, and you should be fine.

they really help me out alot !!

it really works nicely and better than those confusing guides i found

Edit:

just another question before i go setting my computer on a ling encoding mission
what are the difference between a normal mkv file in terms of quality and playback quality ?

there has to be some disadvantages of mini mkv right ?

thanks again ^^

Unless im completely wrong, mini mkv makes bitrate lower, which causes almost no lose in quality when watched on computer screen. Lower bit rate is only noticeable when screen size becomes a lot bigger. Normal mkv have higher bitrate, so file size also becomes higher.

oh so its still worth to keep the big files ... since i'm crazy over the quality ^^

so means if i put it up on a hdtv the quality will suffer but how ?
laggy or will the picture look less sharper ?

sorry for asking too many question ^^ i'm just curious

To be honest, my eyes can't spot difference between mini mkv/ normal mkv. If you don't want waste your bandwith, and don't demand top-quality from anime(Even Full-HD anime is upscaled), then just go with mini mkv. they're good enough for normal watching. But if want archieve, then get Blu-ray version. They've usually the highest visual quality.

I hate Nero AAC Audio codec -___-# This will sound crazy to everyone else, but I do advise to use 64 constant bit rate mp3 instead of Nero AAC (which is automatically encoded in 48 bit rate in most applications). cuz 48 as bit rate is really not enough no matter how you think of it, just compare the quality : try to encode the original audio from an episode into 84 Nero AAC, and mp3 64, the size difference will be about 3 mb ( mp3 is larger ) but the quality will differ significantly. and it's worth the extra 3 mb.

My recommendation is to ask kmonmoy and Skylord. They both are very active in the download section with mini mkv's and imo are the two best encoders. They both constantly put out series with amazing quality. Also, kmonmoy is a staff member at the minitheatre site.
