Default Weird Bug With Quotation Marks - 03-30-2011, 09:03 AM

For some reason when someone says something in quotes its appearing in the subtitles as &# 34; (without the space between them) instead of ". Anyone know how to fix this? I'd have suspected a bad sub, but it happened while watching 3 different shows (Fairy Tail, Dragon Crisis and Level E) each subbed by a different group.

I tried removing CCCP and Reinstalling it, updating FFDSHOW and Halii media splitter. I also test played it in VLC and Windows Media Player and got the same results, so I'm thinking something might be up with the way my computer is processing those codes. That code is generally what you use when you're wanting to show that character when you cannot usually use a regular quote mark, I'm assuming the way subtitles are encoded that the quote mark is considered a forbidden character.

Anyway, if anyone has any information as to what I could do to fix this please let me know. It was displaying fine before today and I didn't install anything new recently.

Are you certain it's not simply the one specific video you're watching? I remember having that same issue, while other videos are just fine.

The first 3 videos I watched had the problem, each done by a different group, specifically they were:

[HorribleSubs] Dragon Crisis! – 12 [720p].mkv

[NARUTO-BASE.RU] Fairy Tail 72 [720p].mkv

[Commie] Level E – 12 [4D9B03A7].mkv

I'm watching Onii-chan no koto and the quotation marks are showing up fine again, but if I go back to one of the other three it's back to the HTML code for the ascii character. If someone else has those specific episodes could you check and see if maybe they have the same problem.

Checked with a couple of people and said they were getting the same thing with those videos so it appears to be a subtitle issue. Thanks for the help though!

HorribleSubs and NARUTO-BASE.RU both rip directly from Crunchyroll, that's where the problems lies, the subtitles there use the HTML code. Commie also take Crunchyroll subs, but they do some slight changes to font styling and sometimes sub the OP/ED karaoke too.

In other words, blame Crunchyroll or in Commie's case, blame the lack of quality checking (their Level E ep 12 release was particularly bad with the amount of errors).
