Phase 1. Make sure you have the latest CCCP installed - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
(Make sure to enable "Autoload VSFilter" in the CCCP options).
Phase 2. Download and install XviD4PSP - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Phase 3. Open MKV(or other), let it cache, and select "AVI Hardware" for AVI*, or some other output if you want something else.**
Phase 4. Press "Encode".
Phase 5. ?????
Phase 6. Profit.
Protip: Use this instead of AlltoAVI, Any video converter, SUPER, etc. for proper subtitles.
REMEMBER: If this doesn't work, it means you messed up(Either the procedure or your whole fucking computer. Try following the steps one more time.
* There are higher quality options, but this will give you an automatically resized, easily decoded, hardware(dvd/standalone xvid players) compatible file, which is probably what you want.
**Some conversions can be cut by checking what the device you are using is compatable with. For example, the iPhone 3GS, and 3G Touch are capable of playing even some HD video, depending on the specific encoding settings.
Also, if you happen to be using a mac, give this a shot:
