Default MPC is freezing when I try to switch/add subtitles - 03-17-2011, 01:59 AM

Pardon, I am having problems with MPC. It is freezing whenever I try to switch subtitles (or more to the case: add subtitles). It has also happened a few times when I switch audio languages. All I can do is shut it down at that point.

I have used MPC for years, but on an older Win XP system. I finally upgraded to a Win7 system, and that's when the problem started.
In those cases I turn to VLC, where I have no subtitle or audio problems.

Although VLC is a nice workaround, after these past 6 months I simply enjoy MPC better and would love it to be the old faithful it used to be.

Here are the specs which I believe will be important:
HP computer (less then a year old)
Win 7 OS
K-Lite Mega pack.
(tried reinstalling K-Lite 2 months ago with the latest update. Still no-go)

K-Lite and MPC worked just fine on my old WinXP Dell. So this has been rather confusing.

Thank you in advance.
(note: if this is a known problem, my search of 'mpc freeze' turned up nothing. I did not know of any other terms to search for)

Might need to wait for later Win7 updates. Assuming you have all of the updates already.

I have windows 7 and I've never had a problem with mpc. Why don't you uninstall K-lite and try cccp to see if it solves it?

@randall -- Not only did all the Win7 updates, but any updates for the comp as well. I truly thought that would solve it, but no luck.

@Spectre -- That's plan B. When searching for any MPC problems on this forum, I noticed that many people here supported the Soviet Russia...er...I mean the CCCP codex pack.

Thank you to both of you for your quick responses.

Still going to cross my fingers and see if anyone else has encountered this problem. If not, in a few days I'll try 'Plan B'.

try changing the default pic to chiyo-chan.

It won't fix the sub problem, but it'll help in other ways.

Hm... freezing you say? And never had the problem before?
How about doing a clean install of "K-Lite Codec Pack"

I prefer it to CCCP.

@pspgeek -- Already tried downloading the latest mpc-hc. No joy. :/

@master_tonberry -- Chiyo-chan helps everything!! At least it seems that way, though I have seen no change in objective reality.

@Markus -- That's what I did 2 months ago (complete new K-lite uninstall/reinstall). No luck. :/ And mpc gave no problems back on my 6 year old WinXP laptop. I only included that information so that no one thinks I am using it incorrectly (hate to waste their time). It's simply a problem with the new laptop and MPC (being that VLC works just fine, I doubt it's a hardware problem).

Thank you all for your responses.

Try deleting the registry key. Open up regedit, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and delete Gabest. Also make sure you have the latest version.
