Default Problem with MPC-HC after installing SP1 Win 7 - 02-25-2011, 02:23 AM

okay i installed SP1 for win 7 on 2 laptops with similar specs and MPC-HC and CCCP codec pack installed on both.
1st laptop: Toshiba A505-S6033
Intel® Core i7-720QM processor
Operating System
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
Graphics Engine
NVIDIA GeForce 310m
4GB DDR3

2nd laptop Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q898
Intel® Core™ i7-740QM
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
6GB DDR3 1066MHz memory
1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M

the Qosmio works just fine but the other laptop, when i play any video file, a message will come up that says Audio Switcher::Out - Pin Failure. only occurs with MPC-HC. TheKMpayer plays all videos just fine along with WMP. i uninstalled and re-installed CCCP and reset all the settings but i still get the message. uninstalled sp1 by doing a system restore the problem goes away. so, should i just give up on installing SP1 on one laptop or is there a work around this problem. thanks in advance!

Did you try reinstalling the program? I'm going to update and see if it breaks mine. I doubt it will, but hey, diagnosing the problem here. Normally reinstalling will fix that issue. You can get the installer from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] . Odds are, it'll actually be better than the on you had (especially if you were using the one bundled with CCCP).

thank you i will try that. iam still not sure why CCCP and MPC-HC works just fine on the other computer and the other one is borked after SP1 install.

It could be some asinine configuration setting you're not aware of that didn't handle the upgrade right. Upgrading an OS to a new version (as in, not just a patch) almost always has a bug or two. Most commonly with third-party software.

You can also try installing K-Lite Codec Pack you can get it from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] it also contains MPC-HC. Otherwise you may need to change your audio renderer in options under playback>output and just try the different options till you find one that works.

1. There will probably not be a work-around for the problem you describe. Hardware specific problems often pop up when you try to run 32-bit programs in a 64-bit OS. Look up “emulators” or “virtual machines” if you want to see what you’re up against.

2. You can avoid the SP1 upgrade for a while, but it is not a long-term solution. There are many reasons for this including the security and stability of your system. And MS will keep annoying you until you upgrade.

The solution: Change video players or change operating systems. 32-bit programs are made to run in 32-bit environments. For CCCP that would include Win7 32-bit, WinVista 32-bit, and WinXP 32-bit. (There are 64-bit versions of each of these as well.) But converting a laptop from 64-bit to any 32-bit OS will be a pain.

If, as you say, other video players do work, and I mean with all the softsub goodness at the resolutions you want and without lag, why not use them?

Lastly, you could also try the 64-bit version of MPC-HC, available on their website. But it can’t use CCCP, and CCCP has no plans to offer a 64-bit version of their program. It would be like starting over from day1 for them to do so, given the differences between 64-bit and 32-bit codecs.

CCCP & k-lite both a great program, but i prefer using Shark007 codecs in win7. [[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. you also can find mpc-hc in tools page here [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

update all your drivers, try another codec pack/media player.

thanks for the advice guys but i called toshiba and they actually fixed it for me. the problem wasnt SP1 for win 7, it was the optional update that i installed with it (Cumulative Update for Windows Media Center in Windows 7 KB2284742) i dont know why this messed up my computer but toshiba support seemed to know that this optional update was the problem.
