Default Choppy Video / Sound - 02-08-2011, 04:55 PM

Ok before anyone chastises me here I did read the FAQs page. I have installed CCCP and have also tried installing the divx codec and changing the settings like mentioned. The link is down for disabling the media player classic settings. I have tried playing in MPC and Windows media player both lag and get choppy. The specs on my new laptop are better than my laptop of 6 years, yet the 6 year old one plays files fine with CCCP. Anyone know of a list of settings that is a fail safe to play 720p mkv files? Thanks in advance

Use VLC. And you might actually say what the damn specs are. Maybe your vid card is ass.

Not that some of you guys care, but MPC > VLC. lol

I'd say uninstall cccp and then reinstall it with the settings reset.
And install MPC together with it.

If it's still "choppy" then open "ffdshow video decoder configuration" > decoder options > check both checkboxes under "trade quality for performance".

Hey guys, thanks for the help first here are my specs:

ASUS - Eee PC - 1201PN-PU17-R - Windows 7 Home Premium - Intel Atom - N450(1.66GHz) - CPU L2 Cache of 512KB - Next-generation NVIDIA ION graphics -
2GB DDR2 - 250GB HDD

An update: I have downloaded XVDA driver from xvid. This seems to stop the lag from happening in MPC, but it seems that now my subtitles will not work. Does directvobsub not work with this codec? If so are there any alternatives to directvobsub?

I also purchased coreAVC and this has some slight improvements, but the XVDA is the best. There is only slight lag using the coreAVC but at least the subtitles work. Anyone know of some optimal settings for coreAVC? Thanks again for the help guys and gals.

To enable subtitles:
- In MPC, go to View > Options (or just press O).
- Select External Filters on the left and click on the Add Filter... button on the right.
- Click on DirectVobSub (auto-loading version) and then OK.
- Select DirectVobSub (auto-loading version) and change it to Prefer on the right.

Or

In MPC options, click on Playback and tick the auto-load subtitles checkbox.

See which one works better for you.

Thank you so much! I had already tried the first way numerous time with making sure that filter was being used with the XVDA driver and for some reason that did not load any subtitles. I just tried the second way of simply checking that auto-loading the subs box that I had never seen and then BAM subtitles working! Thanks again!

There is a Chinese player named Storm, which uses StormCodec(they used to use CoreAVC, so I think the StormCodec is very similar).

I used to get really choppy videos, and now I have zero problem.

FYI, you possess a garbage netbook, no wonder you cant play videos. turn the power plan to whatever the highest one is, high usage or whatever, if it dont run fine with that setting, then your just out of luck. get a real computer.

if it happens to stutter or get choppy again don't use directvobsub/vsfilter use ffdshow's subtitle filter since it uses less cpu usage.
