Follow this guide: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

The converter used will allow you to set the start and end of the part you want to encode.

If all you want to do is have the OP on it's own and retain quality, you can use a couple of programs to split your original file.

I'm assuming you're on Windows, have MPC installed and the file you have is either a mkv or avi.

If you've got a mkv file:

1. Download and install [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], current latest is v4.5.0. You can get either the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] or the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

2. Open mkvmerge GUI (mmg.exe) and in the Input tab, click the add button and select the mkv which has the OP you want.

3. Click on the Global tab, tick the Enable splitting... checkbox and then select the ...after timecodes option.

4. Open the same mkv file in MPC and play the file to the start of the OP and pause it. Tip - use the Framestep keys to get greater accuracy - default is left and right cursor keys.

5. Press Ctrl + G, a Go To... box will pop up, copy the Time. Paste this time into the after timecodes box in mkvmerge. If the OP starts from the very beginning of the file (i.e. 00:00:00.000) then don't bother putting that in as there's no point.

6. Do the same for the end of the OP, play the video, find the end point of the OP (use the Framestep keys again), press Ctrl + G and copy the Time.

7. Paste the time into the after timecodes box again. If you already have a time pasted in, put a comma between them so for example: 00:00:47.194,00:02:26.345

You can do this as many times as you like to split the file, just remember to separate the times with a comma.

In the example above, you'll get three files; 1st segment is from start of file to 47secs, 2nd segment (the part you want) from 47secs to 2m26secs, 3rd segment from 2m26secs to the end of the file.

8. Click the Start muxing button at the bottom and it should be done within a few seconds. The files will be labelled with an extra -001 -002 -003 etc at the end for every part you split. Keep the part you want and just delete the rest.

If you've got an avi file:

1. Download [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], current latest is 1.9.11.

2. Open your avi file in VirtualDub (if you get an error about VBR audio, use [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] instead).

3. Go to Video and select Direct stream copy, go to Audio and select Direct stream copy as well.

4. Now use the slider and find the start point of your OP, use Shift + cursor keys (this will select keyframes) to find the closest point. Press the Home key or the button with a black arrow pointing left, beneath the seek bar. This sets the selection start.

5. Do the same for the end point of the OP, but this time press the End key or the button with a black arrow pointing right. This sets the selection end.

6. Go to File > Save as AVI... (F7) and save the portion you want to where ever, it should only take a few seconds.

(Some screenshots of the VirtualDub method [Only registered and activated users can see links. ])

It seems like a lot, but it shouldn't take more than a few minutes at the most to do. Also just a note, you may not be able to cut to the section you want exactly due to the way keyframes and such work. However, this method is quick and you won't lose any quality as you're not re-encoding.

^ that's an awful lot of work to do just to extract an opening XD

Anyway, are you extracting for video or audio only??

If you just want audion (as mp3 format), use this link [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] look for the OP that you want and find "TV Size" OP for short ones (not full ones). And yeah, just DL it and it should be fine.

For Video, I don't know any other ways but for me, I use KMPlayer to watch my anime and the player has an option to record videos in any format (MKV as well).

However, you can use the method that duh suggested - it's more detailed and easy for you to follow so why don't you try it.

Anyway, I hope this helped you a bit ^^

Seriously, it's not, I just over explained the method to make sure that it made sense. Once you understand how to do it, it literally takes 2 minutes, max.

However you raised a good point, I assumed lilgiudis wanted a video segment of an OP on it's own, I didn't consider just wanting the audio.

download SolveigMM AVI Trimmer + MKV it's user friendly so it's self explanatory and it also has a preview so you know the specific frame/timeline and it's also a lossless way to trim a video. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

All of these methods seem like a lot of work to me. Of course, I'm just really lazy though.

Why not just youtube the OP or ED, most current ones are available in HD, and just download it with jdownloader?

So far, this is the oldest I've ever been

mkvmerge.
Open it in Aegisub, grab the keyframes and paste them into the gui's Global -> Splitting -> timecodes.

That's essentially the method I described, but it's too much effort for some.
