Question Hyperlinking...? [SOLVED] - 11-24-2010, 11:40 AM

At this message board, hyperlinking a posted image to a remotely-stored image isn't allowed; but hyperlinking posted text to a remotely-stored image is allowed. What's wrong with doing the former if it's all right to do the latter? Thank you for your attention to my question.

Sorry if I misunderstood you, but you can hyperlink a posted image to a remotely stored image, or to anywhere else.

Use this BBCode format:
HTML Code:
[url=INSERTWHEREYOUWANTTOLINKTOHERE][img]LINKTOYOURIMAGE[/img][/url]

Unhappy Actually.... - 11-24-2010, 09:52 PM

Thanks for your reply, Ayasaki_Hayate, but that's exactly the code I (unsuccessfully) used. All I get, when I click on the posted image, is a pop-up box showing that selfsame image. My request for the remote image's uniform resource locater never gets out of this Web site.

In a related matter, when I post an image of 500 pixels in width (which is a common size amongst message boards) I end up with an image the size of a commemorative postage stamp. Obviously, there's something I'm doing wrong! What might it be?

In my experience images exceeding a predetermined resolution are automatically resized to the aforementioned "postage stamp" size [355x200px]. I assume this allows pages to load faster for all users, as the bandwidth required to load many images on any forum is intensive on any connection. This way images are loaded off-site when clicked, the thumbnails/resized images are much smaller in size [therefore quicker to load]; thus both AT and it's users don't experience difficulties loading. That and it makes the forums much neater aesthetically speaking.

It should be noted that using the site's inbuilt uploader gives similar results.

Question Erm yeah, but.... - 11-25-2010, 11:00 PM

Thank you for your explanation, yoshiboshi, but I still don't see why clicking on a tiny image which is hyperlinked to an off-site location doesn't work whilst the same function via hyperlinked text works fine. In the event, I'll safely assume images posted to threads on this board can be no larger than 355 x 200 pixels. Hopefully, by adhering to those Lilliputian dimensions, one can expect an image-integrated hyperlink to actually work and not merely produce a pop-up box when clicked. We shall see.

Oh I see what you're saying now, yes images are automatically resized so that they fit the site, but if it is hyperlinked you may still right-click "Open Link in New Tab" (or similar, this is in Firefox) to load the page that it is linked to.

Thanks a bunch, Ayasaki_Hayate, for your explanation. Now I know what to do, the deity willing! This case is closed. Yay!

Clicking on the thumbnail should open it in the image's full size. Alternatively opening in a new tab will do the same. If that feature isn't working for you, then there may be a problem. If you're talking about how AT uses it's own image viewing system, that's most likely just how this board functions. Only opening images in a new tab by right clicking on them for advanced options will produce the same results as clicking on hyper-links/hyper-linked images; if that's what you desire.

In relation to all this I've found a function in the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [thread options] which allows you to customize the base resolution of which exceeding images are resized. However as previously assumed larger images such as 19xxby1xxx distort the user's page insanely.

Thumbs up Ah, yes.... - 11-26-2010, 09:10 PM

Thanks again, yoshiboshi, for your help! The relevant area on the Edit Options page looks something like this:

Quote:
The Image Resizer

Embed Images that are too large are automatically resized so that the website layout remains consistent.

Image width.
Images wider than this width will be resized. Enter 0 in the field below to allow all widths, or leave the field empty to use the default value of 500:
[box]

Image Height.
Images taller than this height will be resized. Enter 0 to allow all heights, or leave the field empty to use the default value of 200:
[box]
I've left the fields empty and will roll with the punches, so to speak, until I'm comfortable with this board's (shall we say) singular system of displaying image files. Those pop-up boxes took me by surprise, so I thought I was doing something incorrectly. It's all good! "When at Animetake, do as the Animetakians do."

Or you could have just used the imglink tag. lol
More info about it here: http://www.animetake.com/forums/misc...bbcode#imglink

I'm closing the thread.
