Default HTCP or Media center help - 10-26-2010, 04:51 AM

Hello everyone.

Do many of you watch your anime via your TV? Lately, I've been trying to find a media center that can play mkv with the subs. So far the only ones are the seagate and the WD Live.

Those are okay solution, but they don't play rmvb, so I think my only solution is getting a htcp.

This brings me to my question. Any suggestion on a htcp?

I'm thinking of something like the Dell Zino HD or a Mac mini. since my tv is picky about what it wants to connect to. I'd connecting my desktop to it, but that didn't work.

Indeed, just use your laptop or the new mac mini is a pretty good solution. I personally have a custom built HTPC, but that set me back 1.2k (case, SSD and silent psu accounted for most of it) and honestly speaking, that might just be overkill for what it's designed to do.

Well.. I've got two HTPC and a HDD media player. And Seagate and WD live isn't the only ones with the capability to support mkv. And there are quite a number of them that can support rmvb...

But HTPC allows you to use it as a computer as well... So as ChaosMaster said it's better to custom made yours... Both of my HTPC are custom made as well... Both of them are made just to meet the minimum requirements to play 1080p movies and animes

I'm thinking of getting one myself, but my biggest question is what program do you guys run on it?

Since i'd like it to have a nice interface showing all the series etc etc, I'm just so noob about it, that i don't know where to start

If it's a bad TV (like i kinda sounds like it is, since it's picky with the connections) then i would suggest you buying a new TV instead, and using HDMI. Always a easy solution.
