If you managed to obtain the App version of VLC you could playback the usual formats, but I don't know how well developed it was. I don't think it supported subtitles (let alone styled ones like the current PC version of VLC does). But keep in mind people aren't going to be downloading hundreds of megabytes
over mobile data connections to watch an anime episode, which already makes an AnimeTake App that much less useful.
The RSS feed would be enough to be notified of new releases, and that combined with a web interface to your Torrent client (which some have now) on your home PC would allow you to start a torrent running while you're on the go, so it would be done when you got home to play.
