Opening ceremony in about 1 hours time, however this Winter Olympics opening ceremony has been overshadowed by a Georgian Luge athlete dieing during the pre-games training earlier in the day.
What do we think will top the medal table, do you have any hopes for any competitor in particular and any event? Post here.

in the same discipline where the poor Kumaritashvili died we Italian have Armin Zöggeler (yeah, not exactly an Italian name, but he comes from Südtirol, an Italian northern region where most people speak German as their mothertongue) and he will probably be our only gold metal. some hopes on Enrico Fabris (Long track speed skating if I'm not wrong) and Carolina Kostner (Figure skating jumps. She is from Südtirol, too).
as for the first place in the metal table, it will probably be a thing between Norvegia and u.s.

Speaking of the opening ceremony. I found this to be one of the most embarrassing part:
Quote:
The gaffe heard 'round the world -- Vancouver organizers had planned for four Olympic cauldrons to be lit by Canada's most famous athletes, but a mechanical error prevented one of the massive torches from rising from the floor of BC Place. Former hockey star Wayne Gretzky, two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash and Alpine skiing legend Nancy Green were able to light their cauldrons, but speedskater Catriona Lemay Doan was left with her flame when the fourth torch failed to emerge from underneath the stadium. It was an embarrassing end to an otherwise flawless Opening Ceremony. Instead of the indelible memory of four cauldron-lighters, this ceremony will be most remembered for the cauldron that wouldn't rise.
All b/c of technical difficulties.
