HoN is an exact replica of Dota with superior graphics but it requires an initial payment to get an account......
while LoL has some differences compared 2 dota but its free .....
LoL is maybe more populated, for being free, and it have no that big difference between paying player(aka players who buy Riot point), and those, who play for nothing.
Only skins can be bought with RP, but everything else can be bought via IP, which you gain by playing games.
Cannot say anything about HoN, since I don't like paying game before you can test it. They say that HoN-community is all about 'K/D ratings is everything' and too much elitists.
On other case, LoL is more casual friendly, but don't let down if people say "your champ isn't tier1, noob!", since many players follow Elementz's tier list.([Only registered and activated users can see links. ])
Its up to you to decide. Try LoL first, and if you don't like it, go HoN(that's it if you want to pay for trying it)

On more question, what is the difference between LoL and dota?? like is there difference system in LoL etc??
And also, I'm from Australia and would the lag be the problem for LoL?? coz I know what lag is like when playing dota so if I play LoL and experience that kind of lag than... the chance is that I won't play the game

First of all, I noticed there isn't a HoN thread in this section (which may help answer/persuade your judgement on the popularity vote) .
I haven't played HoN, so I can't say much about their side, but I have played dota and I frequently play League of Legends.
I think depending on the popularity is the type of person, competitive vs casual gamer (even though I think both games exhibit the same feel since both games were based off of Dota, then again it just depends on the person). I haven't heard much about HoN but only vague comments about it. I've heard HoN (and have seen enough videos to make a judgement, which is my opinion) is more of a one-shot kills (it has a kill-death-ratio system) kind of game while LoL is more team-strategy based, which is according to my experience from the game. Addressing the popularity, I started playing due to random friends that stumbled upon the game, who became interested, and invited me to play. LoL has been out before HoN (according to wiki) and my friends haven't asked me to play HoN (possibly because you have to pay for an account or however the paying system is for HoN as compared to LoL being free to play, which is turn shows more population).
TL;DR - You can also look in the first few pages of the League of Legends thread for other opinions on the games. Personally, if you really want to find out, try both games and figure out which one suits your taste.
LoL - Free
HoN - Pay
Just refreshed - Haven't played Dota in awhile so I don't know about the item system updated but there is a recommended item list in game for each hero (to help understand certain champions strengths ie; critical/attack speed/ ability power (skill wise) and stuff). The Recipe list is easier to follow since there isn't a hidden shop but just one shop near spawn.
Edit - Damn, looks like the first question was answered. . . Just read my refreshed section if you're still curious.

Reason: IM SLOW.
HON is Dota-clone and the characters looked WORSE...
Lol characters are much easier on the eye.
Also; Lol has many game mechanics never tried/possible in Dota...they are very refreshing changes over Dota/Hon.
Lastly: there is no Dota feel to Lol other than the clicking...you might notice a few skills being similar to Dota, but the heroes are completely different(and, imo, more fun to play).
Lastly there are Touhou references and Haruhi references in LoL...we got anime fans working undercover to bring us what we desire. XD

I heard HoN was pretty good even though it requires you to buy the game. However, I've played LoL too long to care about HoN anymore.

I been playing LoL for some time now, (lvl30, all major runes, over 500 normal and 100 ranked games won)
LoL = recently received huge investment in millions and they are hiring therefore they are implementing many new features for example Co-op vs AI. New champions released every 2 weeks.
LoL is much more user friendly, when u die u dont lose money vs HoN you do, making game a bit unpredictable. (loosing, loosing then at the end you win, just have try hard enough)
