Oh my gawd, the character designs are . . . they've been given an unnecessary facelift. They look the same but they're more bishounen-ified. This looks like a shonen anime aimed at shoujo.

It doesn't seem like much time has passed since the last movie and the first episode already introduces pretty much all the players from the original series.

Losers acting all haughty.

Tezuka still looks like a god and is probably invincible even now. His quote is intact as well, "Let's proceed without weakening our guard".

Yup, he's still got those mean condescending eyes

Echizen on the other hand seems to have gotten taller but still looks like a midget in front of his seniors who all seem to have an average basketball player height. He too quotes his trademark line "Mada mada da ne".

I wonder if Echizen's girl Sakuno is in this series. She added a little sugar to the ubiquitous sausage fest.

Still, the first episode reminds me of how ridiculous this series was yet equally addictive. Can't wait to see Momo-chan sempai face off against that brute who actually looks like a old wrinkled hag.

The art looks the same to me, but I don't mind.

As long as it's entertaining like the original, then I'm good.

I never watched the first series of this, but I'm not gonna miss this one.
Well, those guy sure were impressive with their skills.
Really nice first episode.

First match was pretty intense. The 2-string racket thing was interesting.
Momo doesn't quit easily, that's for sure!

So we got the peon matches over and now finally get to see the main events. I want to see how much his skills improved by being in America...funny thing is at my school we had a guy just like him. He even looked like him. He was like in Middle School when he joined the H.S. team and kicked everyone's butts and went to State and won #1 like all 4 years...he's pro now i'm sure...and he was really short but had amazing shots.

There were some pretty nice games this time.
Powerful shots, impossible saves and amazing determination.
The redhead wild boy's match looked pretty interesting, can't wait to see more of it.

The doubles pair sure had some emotional drama of their own. Good episode. Those two sure had a good match with Tokugawa & Oni. The other matches all came down to showing us who's out.
