I do prefer higher quality but file size does matter to me. I avoid downloading *.mkv episodes higher than 350 MB. Mostly because of my internet connection.

Avi is a terrible container, but it's still needed for those without enough CPU power, especially on laptops. If it were up to me, I would probably use a better container that includes the few advantages avi offers.

i prefer avi myself because its smaller and can be played on my ps3. I dont care that much about the quality because its not like im gonna miss some parts of the anime. Anime is anime, hence hd anime is still anime to me. I dont mind watching Mkv though but [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

faster download time for those with crappy internet connections.
some ISP limit your bandwidth so thats another reason, to save bandwidth.
some computers from like before the last few years have hard time playing h264 hq files.

Mkv, its an open container, can hold subs as a separate stream, the container is actually more efficient so having the exact same audio/video in an avi or an mkv the mkv would be smaller. If you mean LQ vs HQ, then I always go for HQ unless the show is shit and isn't worth the HQ, but then again I try not to watch those shows.

MKV

Just because it will usually be higher quality. If I cannot find an mkv HQ file, I will settle with an avi.
