hey there~

Compressing to a lower file size will always result in lower quality.

Compressing from a 170Mb file to 50Mb will have lower quality then compressing a >300Mb file (unless the >300Mb file is crappy quality of course) to 50Mb.
If you want to keep more of the quality then compress to a higher filesize (like 85Mb or 170Mb or something).

Haven't had time to drop in AT for a while. I'm guessing our members range from all over the world XD

Hmm for the first question you could use FairUse Wizard, MeGUI or any other dvd ripping program.
If you're gonna use MeGUI then I suggest you look here for more info on how to do it:

Converting dvd's to mkv's will remove the dvd menu...


For your second question err.... convert the file to mpg using Any Video Converter Free (or any other program that converts to mpg) and burn it to a dvd. I'm not sure if it'll work though, since I havn't tried it.
