I always like mecha, but I was more interested in the power-up stuff. Ronin Warriors set me on that path, and Ryo shouting "armor of wildfire" as he powered up has been forever ingrained in my memory... Ryo of the Wildfire (HD) - YouTube
During my mid teens, most anime only aired during the summer. And since I had to work, I recorded Teknoman and Ronin Warriors to vhs. During school is when Sailor Moon aired, so I was recording that too. I never really got into Dragon Ball like most kids did growing up. Ronin Warriors was my action fix, but Sailor Moon had the biggest impact on me. Power up action scenes light the fury in all male kids, and like typical kids I enjoyed that stuff. Seeing Ryo shout "Armor of Wildfire!" always got me fired up. But the emotional context of Sailor Moon really hit me as well.
