Knowing a musician and actually listening to their work is different. Bob Dylan is the fucking greatest. Allow me to assist you on the albums you need to get:

You can skip his first album which was self titled. He was only 20 when he released it and it was just covers songs.

    The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
Has the timeless classic "Blowin' in the Wind"
Other top tracks: Masters of War, A Hard Rain's a Gonna Fall, Don't Think Twice it's Alright

    The Times They Are a-Changin'
Fav tracks: the title track, Only a Pawn in their Game, When the Ship Comes In, The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carrol

    Another Side of Bob Dylan
Favs: All I Really Want to Do, Chimes of Freedom, To Ramona, I Don't Believe You, It Ain't Me Babe

    Bringing it all Back Home
Favs: Subterranean Homesick Blues, She Belongs to Me, Love Minus Zero, Mr Tambourine Man, Gates of Eden, It's Alright Ma I'm Only Bleeding, It's All Over Now Baby Blue

Highway 61 Revisited (ranked the 4th greatest album of all time by Rolling Stone magazine)
Favs: Like a Rolling Stone, Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues, Desolation Row http://www.aimini.net/view/?fid=32OfxqxkIRZRGjh2lOmf

Blonde on Blonde (ranked the 9th greatest album of all time by both VH1 and Rolling Stone magazine)
Favs: Rainy Day Woman, Visions of Johanna, One of Us Must Know, Just Like a Woman, 4th Time Around

That'll get you started. This doesn't even count the albums with other classics such as All Along the Watchtower (yes, that song... Hendrix's version is a remake) Tangled Up in Blue, Hurricane, Jokerman, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Things Have Changed, etc, etc...

And you probably already know some of his most well known songs like

    Like a Rolling Stone
    Mr Tambourine Man
    Blowin' In the Wind
    Tangled up in Blue
    Knockin' on Heavens Door

He's also made the first ever music video (seriously) with his song Subterranian Homesick Blues

Hey, I said I understood. Geez... kids these days...

But seriously, you do have the misfortune of having to grow up during the worst decade for music... although the 80's are still fighting for that title. But the 80's had Tom Petty and Prince at least.

    As for classics...

Perhaps the most influential musician ever is Bob Dylan. Oh, but what about The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix? Well, they were influenced by Mr Dylan. Yes, even The Beatles. And it was more than just them. He impacted some of the the greatest bands of the 60's... who influence musicians still today. Basically, Bob Dylan influenced the bands that influenced the bands that still influence the musicians today.

    Some of my favorites

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euMjDhZlYHE
    http://www.aimini.net/view/?fid=AGB7kijwBzkKQAwLVk5J

and so upon doing youtube searches of some of my other favorites, all it does is lead me to a bunch of faggots that uploaded videos of themselves "performing" the song... and all that does is piss me off.

    Others that you should find:
    To Ramona
    Shelter From the Storm
and like 30 others but I'm too lazy to list them

Upon a quick browsing I can verify that half of what I saw was worthwhile. There was an incredible lack of music from the 60's and 70's.

But you're young, so I can understand.
