Two storylines does indeed sound pretty cool, as long there's no irritating contradictions or nonsense like that. I can't remember which game exactly, but there was a game that had smth similar to what you are describing, the two storylines thing, and it just pissed me off. I hope this is different though.

I wasn't looking at the new ones lol. Hell no am I paying that much for PS2 games
I'll get the used ones like any wise penny saving man would do \o/

As long as you want it, it's an RPG so you can do many things during the game. Of course, the actual story, like most RPG's, is not that long. I think less than 20 hours of actual storyline, maybe 15 hours. Honestly, I never just play storyline so I couldn't tell you how long just the story is. To move on with the story you need to level up and that could take time but leveling up in a .Hack series is easy, at least G.U is b/c I can't remember the first .Hack. The thing about .Hack games, you can get a bunch of missions that have no relevance to the storyline. They're good for leveling up and you get to play the story "The World" gives you, in a way. Do remember the characters are playing a game too. They're not there to fight a virus but to play a game. The game can give you a story sometimes. Don't you think that's cool? You're playing two storylines, one part of "The World", basically for fun, and one that's serious.

Damn, they cost so much. I didn't think they were that good.

Oh thank god for Amazon \o/

Honestly it seems really interesting, and the fact that there's been a lot of games and anime series tells me the .hack series must be good. I actually have the .hack sign anime, but I never watched it. And by all means, explain away. It helps me to understand the game by a gamers viewpoint rather than some guy behind the desk copying down the synopsis. Typically, how long is each game?

First, to get a better understanding, you need to watch the anime of .Hack Roots. Then play the sequel, being .Hack GU. It starts off with revenge. Haseo being the MC for this. Shino, the girl he likes, was comatose and he's hunting the one he believes did it, Tri-edge. It seems that, although it's a sequel, the comatose of players has been forgotten or happened awhile back. However, very few players still remember that incident and are apart of the game. The new enemy virus is called AIDA. Here's something about AIDA: AIDA!.

Well, I won't go into to much details, since I said so much anyway. However, one new thing is the Avatar fights. You'll remember each Avatar name if you played the first .Hack games with Kite as the MC.

Well, I guess leveling up can help with it. Anyway, after those four games with Kite, you get other anime sequels and sometimes they add in with the games OVA's of gamers or people and what they're doing in the outside trying to help out the ones in the inside of the game, I think (kinda forgot what they do b/c it's been that long). .Hack GU is another sequel. This one is the same concept but the fights are a lot cooler and graphics are nicer. This takes place in a newer version of "The World". Oh, I forgot to say the games name inside of the .Hack series is "The World".

Kite is the MC of the first .Hack games. He starts his hunt for the virus b/c of his friend who was teaching him about the game and was comatose right in front of him. Aura is an AI. Of course, she's not just any AI but they call her the Ultimate AI. Here's more about Aura: Aura! She gave Kite the power to use Data Drain, that will help him defeat the indestructible virus and its spawns. He's the only one that could use Data Drain, which made him awesome. Of course, like all RPG games, you run around making friends to make a party of your choosing to defeat the virus. With Kite as the MC, you get four games with him, the fourth being my favorite b/c of the drama. I like drama. The fighting is okay but can get boring b/c you're doing almost the same thing all the time. Boss battles against viruses, they're called Data Bugs, are long b/c of that shield and once you weaken it, DATA DRAIN breaks it.

Well, it takes place inside of a VR game. People buy the game, go online, create a character, pick the type of fighter the character will be, and the online gamer plays as that character. All you see as the viewer is the created character. You never get to see how the gamer looks outside of the game. Sometimes, you won't know if the person is a boy or a girl that's playing. The character could be a guy and a girl is playing as that guy or vice versa. That's basically the first concept to know about the game or the .hack series. Now in the first .hack game, if you watched the .hack sign anime, it takes place right after the anime. Something crazy is in the game, like a killer virus. This virus is infecting not only the game but it's also infecting the people playing it, causing them to go into a coma.

Never played any of the .hack games. Always wanted to, but I just never got around to it. How good are the games? More importantly, what are they about?

Nothing new as of yet. Just playing old games when I'm not doing much, which is very not a lot. I don't know why but I'm playing the .hack GU series.
