Default Publishers to sue Manga Sites. - 06-27-2010, 11:28 AM

Just read this on Sankaku Complex...
Seems pretty disturbing if you ask me and I wonder if they'll push on with this... good chance right?

Quote:
The Digital Comic Association, a Japanese publisher group supposedly formed to promote digital sales but fast turning into the manga equivalent of the RIAA, has partnered with 4 top English language publishers to tackle a short-list of 30 problem sites.

Lol, I hope they are kidding O.o I mean Ok, if it is a manga that got licensed and WILL get published in English so people can get to actually read it (even though the release rates make me laugh), but if it means they are going to sue for scanlations of those series which aren't getting licensed...I mean...LOL? How am I supposed to read them then? I guess learning Japanese and buying originals? Ridiculous....

Anyway...effort wasted, imho. They will close one site and another will pop up. No one in their right mind will wait circa 5 years for a series to get licensed and then wait 3 months per book release rates (mainly considering most series have around 50+ books).

I really can't see how this is getting in their sales...I mean...yes people won't buy the Japanese version (well, out of Japan/Asia at least) when they are scanlated, but closing those scanlation sites will not make them buy the original...unless they like a picture book xD What really needs to be done is getting MOAR series licensed and released -.-'' Those sites delete licensed manga anyway, so REALLY don't know WTF are they on about D:

chococya96: LOL I hope that was a great sense of sarcasm xD

i've seen this and i don't think it will work out since ppl read it from the internet then buy it and most manga's you don't see in english yet like the naruto manga the english version is way behind and we all know the frustration of waiting a month for the next chapter but as for the scanlators they translate and share if they are going to do this to the manga what is going to stop them from suing ppl from translating anime

Well someone else said: Scanlators are like hydras...well thats prolly what will happen anyway they strike down one site and 3 new sites pop up.
I do understand that mangas that are already licensed in english should be taken off those sites but most mangas are mangas which arent licensed and most likely never will be. Also apparently the publishers in the US take great pride in rewriting the story and contents of shows and mangas to fit the moral image of the US which kinda destroys some mangas entirely. You know all those smut shoujo or borderline h series etc will never get licensed in the US anyway.
And those few mangas that actually do get licensed are kinda treated like anime´s: They start releasing them after they are already out for several years in japan (i understand that you dont want to translate sth that has no success in the country of origin) but instead of catching up fast then it takes em month and month for just single books no one wants to wait ages for some new pages just to still be years behind compared to the japanese releases.
Its pretty much the same funimation does with their animes they QQ at fansubbers blaming them for destroying the anime industry while 95% of all animes never make it overseas and those who do, come out 2 years or later after their initial release making them outdated and reducing the amount of potential customers by a great number.
All of them really fail at the internet imho, today hardly anyone has the patience to wait for month or even years to get a few pages or minutes of his favourite manga or anime. They should rather spend the time and money they waste with sueing fansubbers and scanlators on increasing their release speed and quality. Iam sure they would make alot more money if they were on par speed and quality wise with those individuals they dread so much.

This made me laugh. They can try as much as they want, they won't succeed. Look at the tries to stop the torrent sites. eg. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

But I would really hate it if my manga got taken away :O
