Set in the late 1990s in Japan's Gunma Prefecture, the series follows the adventures of Takumi Fujiwara, an eighteen year old who helps his father run a tofu store by making deliveries every morning to a hotel on Akina with his father's Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT-APEX (AE86). It is revealed that Takumi has been driving on Mt. Akina every morning to deliver Tofu to the summit five years before he even had his license. As a result his skills in mountain racing were honed, and is able to drive under adverse weather conditions.

Anyone remotely interested in cars or racing has to have watch Initial D. It's one of the most well known anime out there. It's fame so great that these days an AE86 (which the main character drives), which is just a 30 year old corolla, sell for 5k USD where's most cars reach junk yards before they turn 20.

The manga is still on-going. One volume per 3 months. However because most of this is racing, the storyline does go pretty slowly. If you thought Bleach was slow, your haven't read this one. Though if you read in a batch it's a good read.

Slow paced it maybe, but doesn't mean it's too bad. I mean Bleach is slow paced, but if you read 10 chapters at a time, your still gonna enjoy it. For most people who are going to download this, there's over 100 chapters (still adding more to the post) and your going to read it all at once, it'll keep you busy for a few hours.

Just added another 50 chapters so enjoy.

I read like 20-25 volumes (several years ago?), which was all that was translated at the time. Not sure what that is chapter wise, but lost track of it. I might catch up at some point... although I've probably forgotten a fair bit of it. :X
