Well.. apparently her dad died from what I remember reading, when Maria didn't know what to write to her dad in her emails, so asked Kyoko about her parents.

Haven't read the manga (never do) but I've seen the anime (it's great) and I personally will be pissed if Kyoko doesn't end up with Ren.
