Default One shots VS Series - 04-14-2009, 10:40 AM

Would you rather read short to the point or long winding manga?
Brought this up cause there are some really good one-shots out there but they hardly seem to get any attention @ all.

I dont really read manga so if they're short, I would probably miss it unlike long winded ones where people rave on about them then it might catch my attention...

mid length is best, maybe like 10-20 chapters, oneshots are too short, but ones like bleach or naruto are too long to keep up with

I prefer one-shots over the super long series like Bleach and Naruto. If a story feels drawn out or like it's going nowhere, I drop it.

One shots are focused on a main story, so there's nothing such as fillers or sucky chapters.

There are some awesome one-shots that I'd rather hope would have more chapters, as well as really long series out there that I love with all my heart. An example of each would be something like Houkago Play and Negima. But it always comes down to this: Is the story any good? If it isn't to my liking, I'll either drop it some time later, or just not read it.

dont often read one shots because they are too short, but its not that i dislike them. i prefer getting into a story that doesnt end in 10 minutes =/

I try to avoid one shots a lot of times. Many times they end with open endings just in case they end up getting serialized which just leaves a lot of open questions. I love reading mangas that are in the 60 to 100 chapter range. There are a few long ones that I still keep up with (Mahou sensei negima). There are few that still maintain the quality of the manga after 100 chapters.

Well, one-shots such as the FMA genius Arakawa Hiromu's "Souten no Koumori" certainly deserve a little more appreciation, but the general appeal for most one-shots diminish on the basis that they never continue. Once read, they're usually forgotten. I am, however, searching for more good one-shots. Yuki Kaori's pretty good at them (well, more like two/three-shots) - I'd recommend "Boys Next Door" or "Kaine".

I'm used to reading series more - largely because I know that they'll continue and I'll have more suspense to look forward to. They're also more abundant, and easier to find.

i can see a frozen point in time
where her figure still awaits
tongue of fire tracing lips outline
where frozen breath originates

with one motion of her wanting eyes
she strips everything away
this one moment is intensified
and colors all fade to grey

I love one-shots. A lot more effort is put into them, more than the series mangas. I mean, what the fuck is up with Bleach and Naruto now? Less than 20 pages, and full o' crap. Personant by Komi Naoshi (mangaka of the discontinued Double Arts), Urooboe Uroboros by Obata Takeshi, Nurarihyon no Mago (it's a oneshot that was serialized into a weekly manga) by Shiibashi Hiroshi, and Akuma Bengoshi Kukabara by Yang Kyung-Il and Youn In-Wan (same author and artist for Shin Angyo Onshi were my favorites.

The quality of the stories, IMO, are much better than most serialized mangas. *cough*To Love-Ru*cough*
