Default For and against Online Manga - 09-15-2010, 04:02 PM

Mangakas and Publishers should read this article.... They should be more open minded about scanlations as they help them to publicize their manga all over the world... Otherwise, mangas wouldn't be this popular around the world.... *Or so I think*

Whats the point if a manga is popular if the author himself isnt making any money?

Exactly what the article is trying to bring about....

The more popular it is, the higher the tendency of us fans to buy it!
Imagine if it's not popular how on earth would ppl even know of it's existence?

Furthermore, when choosing whether or not to purchase a manga we can read the manga beforehand through the online reader website. It's so easy a concept why can't the authors understand this simple marketing technique.
Sigh...

Would anyone buy a car without a test run, or knowing some good detailed stuff about it? I have bought many manga volumes after reading it online. There's something about seeing your manga collection in your shelf that makes you feel gooood. Everyone should read that article, it makes some really good hard to argue points....

All I can say is that I agree. Too bad it's too difficult to push the message across to the publishers.

Publishers are just money hungry dumb bastards, period. Without scanlations, no manga would be as popular as it is now, Naruto wouldn't be selling 1/10th of it's current volume, in fact, without online scanaltions, Naruto, Bleach and One Piece prob would have ended already. Considering the fact that even with the online communities help, most mangas are still failing to reach a level of feasable popularity, like the big three, one would imagine that without the online community, manga would be dead already. In fact there is already speculation on what would happen once the big 3 finish. Damn kant are digging their own grave.

We can't help it if those publishers are short-sighted... If they can't foresee the future of the internet and wanting to keep their market to only Japan then the world of manga is not going to last very long.

And I agree with the article stating that the translation of the mangas aren't as accurate as the ones translated from the fans.

Furthermore, the scanlated mangas also provides details about things that we from other countries might not understand *e.g. TL notes about Japanese customs or slangs*. Trust me I've bought lots of mangas myself to know that the translation isn't as accurate as it's suppose to be.

I'm honestly for online manga. I was really disappointed when OneManga took down it's collection. It honestly amazes me how the publishers can be so focused on the profits from it. Like everyone has been saying, some manga would never have reached the level and popularity they have if not for the internet. The advantage to fans is really great to, because we get access to some manga that maybe no one would have thought about translating for another audience. Also, reading scans, for me like many others, only encourages me to buy the actual volumes. I can name a couple of manga off the top of my head where I have bought not only just the English translation, but the original Japanese version in support of the mangaka.

I'm for online manga because, once you a consumer wants to buy a product you must test or be assured that the product you bought are in tip-top condition and it is a nice marketing strategy too for the authors and publishers.Too bad they don't see about the big picture of online manga sites...
