Default Captain Apathy Attempts to Draw - 05-23-2010, 09:51 PM

Hey peoples. My exams are over, so I'm trying to improve my ability to draw something I've always sucked at: anime/manga characters. Seeing as Bleach is awesome, I've started by having a go at copying various pictures I've found on the interwebs:

Yes, her chin is too pointy. I drew an additional line on after as to where the chin should have gone which looks better.

Line on the left eye (right as you look at it) is messed up slightly, and for Byakuya he doesn't look passive enough.

Forgot to finish his belt before scanning him *doh*

I've also done Ulquiorra, but don't have him handy to scan . . . although Kuro does have a copy He also has an Erza from Fairy Tail I did ages ago in lectures which isn't too bad.

Will update as I do moar ^^

EDIT: If the pictures are too big lmk and I'll put them in spoiler tags or something.

If that is called "sucky" what does it make of my drawing abilities? Blind Retarded Chicken Attack?

I can't wait to see some original content.

Personal opinion this point on: People who draw manga/anime pictures are a dime a dozen now. Why not try to add to the style and make it your own? Take in techniques in American comics, as well as traditional shading. It could add new depth to your work, as well as make it stand out from all the other anime drawings and depictions out there.

Lol, maybe sucky was a slight exaggeration, but the truth is, without another picture to copy from / as reference I am physically incapable of drawing a human being in any style that doesn't look horrendously deformed (and not in a oh-that-gundam's-head-is-so-massive kinda way).

Currently attempting something that may fulfill both of these requests, but damn is drawing from scratch a hell of a lot harder than copying lol :/ Also for some reason I've decided to include wind direction in the drawing which is, in hindsight, turning out to be a bad idea ¬_¬"

Once I'm comfortable drawing figures, I'd love to try out some other stuff, I read American comics as well as manga and love some of the art they do in there, it's just that I decided to start with anime figures as their faces are (imo) a lot easier to do than said American stuff and I need to do a heck of a lot of practice on faces and hands before I try anything more complex.
