Your sig has a real good composition xD But some things that you can fix though, is the blur effect on Ui's cheeks and ear. You might want to lessen that since the blur kinda mess up the focal point.

The light coming from the glint on the knife was cool as well, but I think it's too bright, some burn tool on the shadows would work great xD. Overall, its good and KIU!

Thanks for the compliment ^^ I fixed it a little and it's currently my signature now

nicely done, especially for your first.

the main problem i see with it is that on the right side the purple is reducing the focus on the eyes(which i assumed would be the primary focal point).

also try to apply(aproximately) the rule of 3rds where applicable.

Also try not to make the sig half one colour and half the other, it's usually better to have a balance with the colours.
i.e. look at the sig S.T made for you xP

Thanks ^^ yeah i can see now that it looks kinda terrible...

So you're saying it would have been better to:
have the render closer to the middle (rule of third thing),
use a yellow/white based colour for the "light" instead of pink,
And i think the text looks too bold...think that's because i added it last, and i should have added it before messing with the lighting and colour balance and all that...

Does that cover it all?

Oh and here's another sig i did recently:

This one could've done with a background i think...but oh well...

you did well with this recent one.
I like how to created the focal point by creating a difference in sharpness xP in combination with lighting.
one thing i forgot to mention was the general directions of flow, most sigs will probably with fine with one direction of flow(as in your sig) but if you require 2 directions try to make them roughly but not exactly perpendicular if that makes sense.
diagonals also tends to be easier to work with than vertical and horizontal i've found.
Also be careful with lighting, the face is just a tad overexposed.
And about the background, it's better if you leave it simple than just stick a random c4d behind it if you ask me xP

For backgrounds i tend to use random pictures/textures and smudge them in a way i find suitable combined with brushes and real life scenery at times.

Thanks for the advice

I'll be sure to keep it in mind whilst i'm practicing and attempting to make more XD

An yeah i was thinking a natural background with the sky or something, since the girl in the render is being windswept...

First off, don't listen to Hifu. He talks too much, even for a noob.

Second, don't ever expect to get all teh basics down when you're just starting out. Choose a basic theme and go for just that. As you go on, improve upon it then add to it little by little. I could sit here and point out all the different core elements that you're missing but that won't help you improve. Find a starting point you'd like to start off at and go from there. For example: smudging! a very popular and basic effect. find a tutorial that will tech you the different steps of smudging and how to implement it effectively, then have at it! Or it could be flow, or contrast, or even lighting. Then when you finish your work, post your theme and make sure the judging audience is aware of what your trying to improve upon. That way they don't rape you with unwanted critiques. Like this wall of text for example.

Nice work on the second sig too.

Thanks! And yeah sure i'll concentrate on getting better at a specific theme before moving onto the next...
...so basically i shouldn't try to ace every aspect of the sig, and i shouldn't expect to be awesome at sig making straight away, i should just start off slow...got it. Thanks for the tips ^^
